  • Publication number: 20080002609
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed to enable users of mobile devices to have an easy out of the box experience. In some examples, during the initial powering on of a mobile device, subsequent powering on of the mobile device, or at user direction, the device queries a user about connecting to an alternate wireless access network supported by the mobile device and upon receiving an indication from the user of the mobile device to proceed with the connection to the alternate wireless access network, connects the mobile device to an alternate wireless access network.

  • Patent number: 7113800
Abstract: A method and a system for routing a short message into a data network in a telecommunication system that comprises a subscriber's terminal device, a first short message service center, a second short message service center and a data network connected to the second short message service center. The short message service center defined as active in the terminal device is the first short message service center. A short message sent from the terminal device to a predetermined destination number is routed from the first short message service center via a special converter component to the data network. The short message in Mobile Terminated format is converted in the converted component into a short message of Mobile Originated format and is then sent to the second short message service center.

  • Patent number: 6993666
Abstract: A procedure and a data communication system in which a service provider provides to a remote user of a service a set of expendable passwords for use by the user in accessing the service via a telecommunication and/or data network. The user's terminal device is provided with means for automatically transmitting a password at log-on to the service, and a server to which the terminal device sets up a connection includes means for identifying the password and for allowing or denying access to the service on the basis of the supplied password. The terminal device further includes means for storing a set of passwords and for selecting, at log-on to a predetermined service, the correct password from the stored set of passwords for automatic addition of the password to a connection setup signal transmitted from the terminal device to the server.

  • Patent number: 6934391
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the control of a subscriber identity module (SIM) in a data communication system, preferably a mobile communication system. The data communication system includes first and second subscriber registers (HLR1, HLR2) for maintaining subscriber records defining a subscriber identity module registry, a short message transmission system (SMSC) for transmission of messages in the communication system, and a mobile station (MS) connected to the subscriber identity module (SIM) for use by a subscriber in effecting mobile communications through the data communication system.

  • Patent number: 6882844
Abstract: A method and system for changing a subscriber profile on the basis of the detected or known identity of the base station currently serving the terminal equipment of that subscriber in a mobile communication network. A permanent and unique identity parameter or designation is created and assigned to each base station of the network, and is broadcast by each respective base station to all subscriber terminal equipment currently in its communication coverage area or region. Changing of the subscriber profile on the basis of subscriber movements within the network is accomplished with enhanced flexibly and ease and at lower cost than heretofore possible.

  • Patent number: 6728553
Abstract: A subscriber identity module makes it possible to integrate different smart card functions with the SIM card used in a mobile station. The invention enables new diversified service combinations to be implemented so as to allow them to be utilized via a data communication device, such as a mobile station. A feature characteristic of these service combinations is that a part of the series of actions is carried out in a system and/or application external to the data communication system and the data communication device in addition to or instead of wireless communication between the mobile station and the data communication system/application.

  • Patent number: 6708033
Abstract: A system for changing the service profile of a mobile subscriber includes a location part (31), a evaluation part (32) and a subscriber connection exchange part (33). Besides these, the home location register contains such individual subscriber connections for the subscriber, which have a different service profile. The duty of the location part is to find out the location of the mobile station in the network and to give location information to the evaluation part. The information may be e.g. a location area identity, cell identity or switching centre area identity which is used in the public land mobile network. The evaluation part checks to find out whether the location information has changed compared with the location information received earlier. If it has, it searches the memory for the corresponding location information and compares the connection information in the record with the current connection information.

  • Patent number: 6516190
Abstract: Rate charging rules and principles concerning mobile calls in a cellular communication system can be improved by providing the mobile station with a locator object which, at certain intervals, determines the cell in which the mobile station is currently located. Stored in the mobile station is a list of cells or areas in which a special rate is to be applied in charging for calls originating from the mobile station. The locator object monitors calls made from the mobile station and, when it detects that a call is being made, it determines whether the mobile station was in a denoted special rate area at the time that its location was most recently determined. If so, then the object informs the network that the call is entitled to the special rate. Since the last location function was executed just before call setup commenced, a special rate call is possible even if the mobile station has thereafter moved some distance into a cell applying a normal rate.
