Publication number: 20240054155Abstract: A system and method is provided for displaying surfaces of an object from a vantage point different from the vantage point from which imagery of the object was captured. In some aspects, imagery may be generated for display by combining visual characteristics from multiple source images and applying greater weight to the visual characteristics of some of the source images relative to the other source images. The weight may be based on the orientation of the surface relative to the location from which the image was captured and the location from which the object will be displayed.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 9, 2023Publication date: February 15, 2024Inventor: Janne Matias Kontkanen

Patent number: 9058684Abstract: A set of nodes for rendering a 3D model using a set of camera parameters based on at least a threshold error value may be selected. Each node corresponds to a bundle of data for rendering a geographic area at a particular resolution and the camera parameters including a point of view for rendering the 3D model. For a given node of the set of nodes, a smallest circle of confusion within a bounding box of the geographic area of the given node may be determined using the set of camera parameters closest to a particular parameter of the set of camera parameters. A diameter of the smallest circle of confusion is compared to the threshold error value. Based on this comparison, the threshold error value is adjusted. The adjusted threshold error value is used to select a new node to replace the given node in the set of nodes.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2014Date of Patent: June 16, 2015Assignee: Google Inc.Inventor: Janne Matias Kontkanen

Patent number: 8982120Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to rendering three-dimensional (3D) models to increase visual palatability. One or more computing devices may render an image of a 3D model. This rendering may actually occur in one or more stages. At an interim stage, the one or more computing devices determine an error value for a rendering of a partially-loaded version of the image. The error value is compared to a threshold. Based on the comparison, the one or more computing device generates an at least partially blurred rendering based at least in part on the rendering of the partially-loaded version of the image. The one or more computing devices provide the at least partially blurred rendering and subsequently provide for display a completely loaded version of the image.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2013Date of Patent: March 17, 2015Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Janne Matias Kontkanen, Evan Hardesty Parker, Jonah Jones
