  • Patent number: 7876743
Abstract: A method of setting up a session between peer user terminals of a communication system, wherein at least one of the user terminals is a dual-mode terminal having access to both an IP-based packet-switched access network and a circuit-switched access network, and the session extends at least in part across the circuit-switched access network. One of the user terminals initiates the session by sending Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling to a SIP server over the IP-based network. The SIP server sends a notification to a gateway server to establish one or more conversational bearers. The gateway server then sends a callback telephone number to the dual-mode terminal. The dual-mode terminal then calls the callback number to establish a circuit-switched session with the gateway server.

  • Patent number: 7792906
Abstract: A method of enabling a terminal 1,2 coupled to a GSTN 10 to join an Internet based presence service facilitated by a presence server 6. The method comprises establishing a telephone connection between said terminal 1,2 and an intermediate server 4 via the GSTN 10, as a result of said connection, establishing a proxy entity corresponding to said terminal 1,2 at said intermediate server 4 and registering the proxy entity with the presence server 6 via the Internet, and exchanging presence service messages between the presence server 6 and the proxy entity at the intermediate server 4 via the Internet and between the proxy entity and said terminal 1,2 via the GSTN network 10.

  • Patent number: 7450565
Abstract: A method of setting up a call between first and second nodes of a communication system when the call extends across a circuit switched access network and a packet switched backbone network interconnected by a Media Gateway. A control node obtains from a Home Subscriber Server, the identity of a Media Gateway Control Function controlling that Media Gateway which will terminate the call within the circuit switched access network. The first node calls an access number notified to it by the Media Gateway Control Function, and as part of the call setup procedure, the identity of the Media Gateway selected to terminate the call is communicated to the second node.

  • Publication number: 20070254642
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing rapid Talk Burst Control (TBC) for a Push To Talk over Cellular (PoC) Client engaged in a PoC communication with another PoC Client through a PoC Server (33). When a first PoC Client (31) completes a talk burst, the PoC Server (33) consults a communication pattern model (86) to predict which PoC Client is the predicted next talker. The PoC Server then sends a TB Pre-granted message (41) to the predicted next talker (32), pre-granting’, permission to talk before the predicted next talker requests permission to talk. When the predicted next talker presses the push to talk (PTT) button on his Client handset, he immediately has the right to talk without any further signaling with the PoC Server. If an unpradicted user requests permission to talk, the pre-granted permission is revoked, and the unpredicted user is granted permission.

  • Publication number: 20070143502
Abstract: A server device configured to provide a content aggregation service. The server device comprises a first transceiver unit configured to communicate with a terminal, a second transceiver unit configured to communicate with content network sources, a memory for storing a resource list of addresses of the content network sources, and a content aggregation processor operably connected with the first and second transceiver and the memory, and configured to fetch content from the addresses of the content network sources as well as to aggregate the fetched content into a notification message to the terminal.

  • Publication number: 20070053343
Abstract: A method of setting up a call between first and second nodes of a communication system, said call extending across at least one circuit switched access network and a packet switched backbone network, the networks being interconnected by at least one Media Gateway. The method comprises, at a control node, obtaining ftoin a Home Subscriber Server the identity of a Media Gateway Control Function controlling that Media Gateway which will terminate the call within the circuit switched access network. The first node calls an access number notified to it by the Media Gateway Control Function, and as part of the call set-up procedure the identity of the Media Gateway selected to terminate the call is communicated to the Media Gateway Control Function.

  • Publication number: 20040249887
Abstract: A method of setting up a session between peer user terminals of a communication system, said session extending at least in part across a circuit switched access network. The method comprises transporting signalling to initiate said session between at least one of the peer user terminals and said communication system via an IP based packet switched access network using a call control protocol which is also used for setting up end-to-end packet switched sessions, and subsequently establishing said session based upon said signalling.

  • Publication number: 20020090975
Abstract: A method of initiating a call to a multi-mode mobile telecommunication device (2) served by two or more access networks (6, 7) comprises sending a paging signal that specifies a preferred access network to the mobile telecommunication device. This ensures that the call will not be rejected as a consequence of being set up over an access network that cannot support the call. The invention also provides a method of completing a call to a mobile telecommunication device in which a paging response is returned via a first access network (6). It is then determined whether the first access network can support the call. If the first access network cannot support the call, rather than rejecting the call, according to the invention a communication channel is set up to the mobile telecommunication device over another access network (7) that can support the call.
