  • Patent number: 8461443
Abstract: Method, device and system for generating a light control parameter for controlling light (20), e.g. ambient light, in response to an audio signal (A). The audio signal (A) is analyzed in order to extract a temporal evolution of semantic content of the audio signal (A). A light control parameter is then generated according to the temporal evolution of semantic content of the audio signal (A), either on-line or off-line. This enables generating light that is perceptually aligned with the audio signal, e.g. music. In a preferred embodiment spatial properties of the audio signal (A) are extracted, and separate light control parameters are generated for controlling light sources spatially positioned according to the spatial properties of the audio signal, e.g. for stereo or surround sound systems where light sources are positioned near each loudspeaker. Such embodiment enables spatial correspondence between light and audio.

  • Publication number: 20120117373
Abstract: A method for controlling a second modality based on a first modality is provided. The method comprises the steps: providing a first modality comprising time-dependent characteristics and a second modality capable of changing its appearance over time; automatically determining changes in the appearance of the second modality based on the time-dependent characteristics of the first modality; adjusting a smoothing degree by means of a user input device; and adapting the determined changes in appearance of the second modality based on the smoothing degree and on boundaries present in the time-dependent characteristics of the first modality to arrive at resulting changes in the appearance of the second modality.

  • Patent number: 8140542
Abstract: A method of organizing content items includes obtaining information (19-21) associating each of a first and at least one further label with respective sets of first content items. At least one first content item is associated with the first label in response to user input. A second content item is obtained. For each of the first and further labels, a similarity measure is calculated between a feature vector characterising the second content item and each of the feature vectors characterising first content items associated with the label. The first label is associated with the second content item upon determining that the second content item is similar to the first content items associated with the first label, according to calculated values of the similarity measure.

  • Publication number: 20110125795
Abstract: Multimedia items are selected from a plurality of candidate multimedia items by: determining (201) a plurality of features characterizing a user collection of multimedia items; determining (203) a probability function from said determined features, said probability function having a plurality of maxima, said plurality of maxima indicating the probability that a user prefers an item having the combination of features represented by said maxima; and selecting (209) at least one multimedia item from a plurality of candidate multimedia items on the basis of at least one of said determined maxima.

  • Patent number: 7718881
Abstract: The method of determining a characteristic of a content item comprises the steps of selecting (1) data representative of a plurality of sounds from the content item, determining (3) a characteristic of each of the plurality of sounds by analyzing said data, each characteristic representing a temporal aspect of an amplitude of one of the plurality of sounds, and determining (5) the characteristic of the content item based on the plurality of determined characteristics. The characteristic of the content item and/or a genre and/or mood based on the characteristic of the content item may be associated with the content item as an attribute value. If the content item is part of a collection of content items, the attribute value can be used in a method of searching for a content item in the collection of content items. The electronic device of the invention comprises electronic circuitry. The electronic circuitry is operative to perform one or both methods of the invention.

  • Publication number: 20090132508
Abstract: A method of processing message from a user of a system (1-4) for storing sets of data representing a first collection (11) of content items (12), each including a recording of at least one perceptible content element, includes obtaining information (13; 19) representative of a first assignment of category labels to content items (12) in the first collection (11), wherein the message includes an indication of a category label used in the first assignment. The method further includes obtaining information (14) representative of a second assignment of category labels to content items (12) including a recording of at least one perceptible content element, and matching with the category label indicated in the message an indication of at least one of the category labels used in the second assignment by determining a measure of similarity between content items (12) assigned the category label indicated in the message in the first assignment and content items (12) assigned category labels in the second assignment.

  • Patent number: 7373296
Abstract: A method of classifying a spectro-temporal interval of an input audio signal (x(t)) is disclosed. A spectro-temporal interval of the input audio signal is first modelled (62 . . . 71) according to a perceptual model to provide a first representation (Rep 1). The spectro-temporal interval is then modelled (62 . . . 71) using a modified noise substituted input signal according to the same perceptual model to provide a second representation (Rep 2). The spectro-temporal interval is then classified as being noise or not based on a comparison of the first and second representations.
