  • Publication number: 20140104237
Abstract: A method for using existing touchpad hardware to detect and track multiple objects such as fingers that are in contact with a touchpad, wherein the method extracts information from data that is already being collected, wherein analysis of the data is simplified by identifying objects by only looking for a positive slopes and negative slopes to identify multiple objects in data from the touchpad.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 23, 2013
    Publication date: April 17, 2014
    Applicant: Cirque Corporation
Inventors: Jared C. Hill, Richard D. Woolley

  • Patent number: 8502798
Abstract: A system and method for detecting and tracking multiple objects on a touchpad or touchscreen, wherein the method provides a new data collection algorithm, wherein the method reduces a calculation burden on a processor performing detection and tracking algorithms, wherein multiple objects are treated as elements of a single object and not as separate objects, wherein the location of the objects are treated as end-points of a single object when two objects are detected, and treated as a perimeter or boundary when more than two objects are detected.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 2012
Date of Patent: August 6, 2013
    Assignee: Cirque Corporation
Inventors: David Taylor, Paul Vincent, Jared C. Hill, Richard D. Woolley

  • Publication number: 20110069021
Abstract: The system will analyze the location where contact is being made by a user on the touchpad surface, wherein the contact must be an area gesture defined as a gesture in a specific area of the touchpad along with contact that is either a single contact that is larger than a typical finger or is made by multiple contacts, wherein data from the touchpad is ignored when the area of contact begins or is only made within a corner, side, top or other region or combination of regions, wherein if an area gesture has some contact with the region, the area gesture is considered suspect and may be ignored as accidental or unintended contact.

  • Publication number: 20100194701
Abstract: A system and method for detecting and tracking multiple objects on a touchpad or touchscreen, wherein the method provides a new data collection algorithm, wherein the method reduces a calculation burden on a processor performing detection and tracking algorithms, wherein multiple objects are treated as elements of a single object and not as separate objects, wherein the location of the objects are treated as corners of a quadrilateral outline of a single object when two objects are detected, and wherein the multiple objects are capable of being tracked so as to perform a multi-touch rotation gesture.
