  • Patent number: 11918942
Abstract: A technique facilitates construction of a wire-wrapped screen. A wrapping machine is operated with a sensor, e.g. a camera, positioned adjacent the wrapping machine while wire is wrapped to create the wire-wrapped screen. The sensor is used to obtain data on at least one parameter of the wire-wrapped screen during creation of the wire-wrapped screen. Data is provided to a controller in communication with the wrapping machine to improve the quality of the wire-wrapped screen. For example, data from the images obtained via the camera may be provided to the controller which is configured to determine slot width as the wire is wrapped. The controller is then able to provide feedback in real time to the wrapping machine so as to adjust the wrapping machine for maintaining a desired slot width.

  • Publication number: 20190062569
Abstract: A laminar flow coating for aerodynamic surfaces is provided. The laminar flow coating may comprise a base composition, such as an epoxy composition, a fluoropolyurethane composition, or a polyurethane composition. A filler composition may be dispersed within the base composition. The filler composition may comprise at least one of a nanomaterial composition or a microfiller composition. The filler composition may be doped with a hydrophobic surface modifier prior to being dispersed within the base composition.

  • Patent number: 10144520
Abstract: An aircraft component assembly has a structural body and a thermal management de-icing system for minimizing or preventing ice build-up on leading edges of the body. The system includes a supply line for flowing heated fluid to the leading edges and a cooling device that interposes the supply line to prevent overheating of the leading edges thus protecting bodies that may be made of composite materials that are more susceptible to heat.

  • Patent number: 9964521
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting damage in composite components are disclosed. A first attachment feature and a second attachment feature may be coupled to a composite component. A transmitting device may be coupled to the first attachment feature. A receiving device may be coupled to the second attachment feature. A signal may be transmitted from the transmitting device, through the first attachment feature, through the composite component, and through the second attachment feature to the receiving device. The signal may be analyzed to detect damage in the composite component.

  • Publication number: 20160221275
Abstract: A polyimide resin may be extruded into a polyimide film. The viscosity of the polyimide resin may be increased by adding nanomaterials to the polyimide resin. The polyimide film may be a surface film for a composite laminate. The polyimide film may be resin film infused with dry fiber layers. The nanomaterials may decrease microcracking and increase ultraviolet radiation protection.
