  • Publication number: 20150161877
Abstract: Disclosed herein are techniques for collecting information related to a crime or distress scene. An indication is received that a phone (“distressed phone”) has declared an emergency or distress event and a location of the distressed phone is also received. An additional set of phones, and their associated geographic locations, in vicinity of the distressed phone at a time that the distressed phone declared the emergency or distress event is determined. For each of the additional set of phones and the distressed phone, a number of cameras capable of tracking that phone is determined. For a phone from the additional set of phones and the distressed phone, video or image data related to a user of the phone is captured using at least one of the determined number of cameras capable of tracking that phone.

  • Patent number: 7336630
Abstract: A method for transmitting speech and data simultaneously on a circuit switched two-way connection of a mobile communications system, which transfers speech and other data by use of discontinuous transmission, DTX, in which the sending is discontinued when it is indicated, that there is no information to be sent, and continued when it is indicated that there is information to be sent. In accordance with the method of the invention, the data to be sent are stored in buffer means and wait to be sent. When it is indicated, that there is no more information to be sent, the data stored in buffer means are sent until there is no more data to be sent or until it is indicated that there is information, speech or other data, to be sent, in which case the sending of data is discontinued and the sending of speech or other data is re-started. So the transfer of data takes place as a background process during transfer of speech or other data. The data are arranged into frame structures while being stored in the buffer.

  • Patent number: 7228143
Abstract: A method of paging a mobile station to establish a packet-switched connection in a mobile telephone network that supports a circuit-switched connection and a packet-switched connection. To establish a mobile-terminated circuit-switched connection, the mobile telephone network sends the mobile station a page request, as a result of which the mobile station switches to standby mode for a circuit-switched connection. To save the batteries and to reduce the need of processing, the mobile station listens only to the paging channels of the circuit-switched connection. To establish a mobile-terminated packet-switched connection, the mobile telephone network sends the mobile station a page request via a circuit-switched connection and subsequently sends the mobile station the additional information commanding the mobile station to switch to a packet-switched connection. After detecting the additional information, the mobile station switches to the packet-switched connection.

  • Patent number: 7158489
Abstract: In TDMA systems it is possible to transmit data on more than one consecutive slot per frame. This introduces increased workloads on the power amplifier of the transmitter of the mobile station. To prevent the power amplifier from overheating, temperature sensing means are incorporated into the mobile station which output to a control system comprising a comparator and feedback means which together regulate the operation of the transmitter if the power amplifier approaches or exceeds it upper rated operating value. Thereby preventing the power amplifier from damage.

  • Patent number: 6967943
Abstract: A method of operating a time division multiple access (TDMA) radio system having multi-slot capabilities and utilizing half-duplex transmission/reception where uplink and downlink user data transmissions between a mobile station (MS) 2 and a base station (BS) 3 are made in separate TDMA frames. A greater number of time slots are allocated to the mobile station 2 in each downlink TDMA frame than in each uplink TDMA frame to improve the efficiency of radio resource allocation and of the radio module 4 of the mobile station 2.

  • Patent number: 6810035
Abstract: A wireless terminal arrangement acts as a communicating party in a multimedia connection consisting of real time service components and non-real time service components. The real time service components are to be utilized by local real time applications (206, 207) and the non-real time service components are to be utilized by local non-real time applications (205). A radio transceiver (204) is capable of both circuit-switched and packet-switched operation. A real time channel block (202) is used for conveying the real time service components between the local real time applications (206, 207) and the radio transceiver, and a non-real time channel block (203), connected in parallel with said real time channel block, is used for conveying the non-real time service components between the local non-real time applications (205) and the radio transceiver.

  • Patent number: 6570860
Abstract: A method and apparatus for data transmission in a time division multiple access (TDMA) mobile communication system, in which one or more time-slots may be allocated to a mobile stations for data transmission. The mobile station indicates, upon setting up a data call, to the mobile communication network a desired level of service for the user data transfer and the mobile communication network assigns the mobile station for a data call a channel configuration consisting of one or more time- slots in connection with call set-up or handover. The assigned channel configuration depends on the resources currently available in the mobile communication network and enables a data channel performance which is within the limits of the desired level of service.

  • Patent number: 6532227
Abstract: A method for quickly de-allocating physical channels (PDCH) assigned to packet switched calls in a GPRS supporting GSM digital cellular telephone network. An PDCH de-allocation RLC/MAC control message is broadcast to listening mobile stations from a base station subsystem (BSS) and contains a temporary flow identity (TFI) which is recognised by the listening mobile stations (MS). The mobile stations respond by terminating packet switched data transmissions on the identified PDCHs. The RLC/MAC message also identifies the number of PDCH time slots which can be used before de-allocation must occur.

  • Patent number: 6480485
Abstract: In a digital mobile communication system, a packet radio system has been implemented by employing the radio interface of the mobile communication network. The packet radio system comprises packet radio support nodes (SGSN) connected to the mobile communication network, as well as gateway support nodes for providing an inter-connection to an external packet data network (15). The support nodes (SGSN, GGSN) are connected to an intra-operator packet switched backbone network (13). The serving support nodes and the gateway support nodes collect charging information on usage of the radio interface and the data network (15), respectively. The system is further provided with a billing gateway support node (BGGSN) connected to the internal backbone network (BGGSN) to receive user-specific charging information collected by the other support nodes, and to forward the charging information to a charging system.

  • Patent number: 6470024
Abstract: A method and apparatus implementing the method for controlling the use of idle frames by a mobile station operating in a wireless telecommunication network. A control unit of the mobile station comprises the information on activities that can be carried out during idle frames in accordance with the mobile station's operating mode. At each idle frame, the mobile station checks said operating mode and activities to be carried out and of the activities to be carried out, determines the one that has the highest priority on the basis of said operating mode. For example, if necessary, the number of idle frames used for synchronisation burst search can be arranged as high as possible and, thus, enhance synchronisation.

  • Patent number: 6240079
Abstract: In a cellular communication system, multiple TDMA time slot channels may be assigned to a single mobile station. The network may dynamically adjust, during a call, the number of channels assigned to any one mobile station based on resources available to the network and based on a level of service desired by the mobile station. In this manner, mobile stations having varying bandwidth requirements can be efficiently served by a single communication system.
