  • Publication number: 20230058427
Abstract: A system for adjusting volume and ambient sounds in an earphone device with Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) functionality, implemented using a microphone and a signal processor, wherein a signal mixer is configured to, in response to detecting a rotation of a first dial connected to the earphone device, adjust the proportions between a group of signals in a mixed signal generated for the speaker of the earphone device, and thereby enabling precise and intuitive control of both playback volume and ambient sound processing.

  • Patent number: 7689248
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software product for listening assistance to a user of a phone terminal with a headset or a hearing aid for selective listening of a local acoustic source in a noisy environment by said user utilizing a combination of said phone terminal and said headset. The method for the listening assistance comprises of placing the phone terminal near a desired local acoustic source, switching a mode of the phone terminal to a listening mode, providing to the headset or to the hearing aid a signal (e.g., a wireless signal) generated by the phone terminal in response to an acoustic signal from the local acoustic source, and providing to the user an output acoustic signal generated by the headset or by the hearing aid in response to that signal thus providing said listening assistance to the user.

  • Patent number: 6011853
Abstract: The invention relates to equalization in a digital phone, advantageously a mobile phone. According to the invention, the equalization (4) of a reproduced sound is changed according to the operating conditions of the phone. Information about the conditions is obtained by monitoring the sound volume (19) set by the user, measuring the background noise (17) in the operating environment of the phone through the phone's microphone (9) and/or monitoring the quality (16) of the connection between the phone and the communication network. The low frequency emphasis is reduced in a very noisy environment and increased in a quiet environment. The telephone according to the invention is advantageously a mobile phone in a digital cellular network.

  • Patent number: 5907823
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a circuit arrangement for adjusting the level and/or dynamic range of an audio signal in a transmission system and particularly in a mobile station. According to the invention, the level of acoustic noise in the environment of a terminal (10, 12) and the level and noise level of a received signal are measured (123) and the level and/or dynamic range of the reproduced signal are adjusted (121, 122) according to the results from said measurements. The solution according to the invention helps reduce the effect of noise in the signal transmitted on the transmission channel (11) and of the acoustic noise in the environment of the terminal (12) on the intelligibility of the reproduced information.
