  • Publication number: 20040181703
Abstract: The invention relates to an electronic device comprising means for controlling operation modes, one or more subunits for which, in terms of power consumption, at least two operation modes are determinable, one of the modes being an active mode and one being a sleep mode, in which sleep mode power consumption is smaller than that in the active mode.

  • Publication number: 20040160950
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for ensuring the adequacy of transmission capacity in a digital packet-switched cellular network where both voice sample packets and associated header fields are transmitted in real time in one and the same transmission channel. The invention also relates to a terminal employing the method. In the method, the contents of voice sample packets at the beginning of a speech spurt are partly replaced by packet header field data in situations where the combined bit count of voice sample data and packet header data exceeds the transmission capacity of the transmission channel.

  • Publication number: 20040100940
Abstract: A method is described for operating a mobile station with a wireless network having packet data capabilities, as is a network that operates in accordance with the method. The method includes establishing default operational parameters values for the mobile station and, when establishing a PDP Context for use by an application, such as a delay-critical application that may be a real-time application (or any application that requires specific operational values, such as DRX values), requesting a modification of the default operational parameters values so as to reduce the delay in the establishment of a TBF for the application. In the preferred embodiment the operational parameters comprise DRX parameters selected to optimize the paging operation of the MS to reduce the delay in transferring packet data to or from the MS. In other embodiments the operational parameters can include MS Radio Access Capability (RAC) parameters, such as Multi-slot Class, GPRS Timers and/or MS Power Class.

  • Patent number: 6665289
Abstract: A method is disclosed for operating a wireless TDMA communications system. The method includes steps of monitoring a propagation delay of a mobile station; and when the propagation delay exceeds a predetermined limit, changing by a time slot unit a value of one or both of Tta1 and Ttb1, wherein Tta1 is a minimum number of time slots allowed between the end of a last, previous receive time slot and a first, next transmit time slot, when a channel measurement is to be performed in between, and wherein Ttb1 is a minimum number of time slots allowed between the end of a last, previous receive time slot and a first, next transmit time slot.

  • Publication number: 20030147419
Abstract: The invention relates to a protocol converter (14) and a method utilizing the converter, enabling a wireless connection (13) between a cellular network (11) and a terminal to apply a reduced RTP protocol according to the invention, instead of the RFC 1889 protocol, in order to save communications capacity on speech connections.

  • Publication number: 20020187808
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for securing the transfer of cipher keys and security codes between a mobile equipment (100, 300, ME) in a radio network and a SIM card (305) attached thereto. In the method according to the invention the mobile equipment and the SIM card attached thereto are first authenticated separately. After successful authentication, a cipher key KSM is given to the mobile equipment and the SIM card to be used by them. This cipher key is used to encrypt all other exchanges of passwords and security codes between the mobile equipment and the SIM card.

  • Publication number: 20020081179
Abstract: The invention relates to a SIM card (405) to be inserted in a terminal (400) of a communications network, comprising means for storing data (11a, 11b, 11c) required in the identification of at least two users and means for carrying out user identification. The invention also relates to a cellular terminal utilizing the said SIM card. The terminal can be used by several users with their own identification codes without changing the SIM card in the terminal.
