  • Patent number: 10069184
Abstract: A TEM-line network architecture for RF components used in antenna system, includes an electrically conductive main body forming an outer conductor defining a signal channel, and an electrically conductive center conductor electrically grounded to the main body at predetermined locations. The center conductor is electromagnetically isolated from the outer conductor at RF frequencies while being connected and supported within the signal channel only at at least one of the predetermined locations. The outer conductor is preferably formed of three layers with the center conductor being integral with one of the layers.

Date of Patent: September 4, 2018
Assignee: MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Corporation

  • Patent number: 9059682
Abstract: An advanced reverse orthomode junction feed assembly with associated filters for use in an antenna feed system for transmitting a first low frequency (LF) electromagnetic signal and receiving a second high frequency (HF) electromagnetic signal. The assembly includes, in a preferred square waveguide topology, an orthomode junction with an antenna port for connecting to a choking iris matching section and an antenna feed, an opposed generally coaxial first signal port to transmit the LF signal, and a generally perpendicular second signal port, located there between, to receive the HF signal. A first signal channel having fully asymmetric on-axis second signal reject filters connects to the first port; and a second signal channel having cross-axis first signal reject filters with multi-cavity HF path matching assembly connects to the second port. The use of a magic-tee as a combiner for the receive signal provides tracking capability to the antenna feed system.

  • Publication number: 20100007432
Abstract: A reverse orthomode junction assembly with associated filters for use in an antenna feed system for transmitting a first electromagnetic signal at a first frequency range lower than the second frequency range of a receive second electromagnetic signal. The assembly includes an orthomode junction with an antenna port for connecting to an antenna, an opposed generally coaxial first signal port to transmit the first signal, and a generally perpendicular second signal port, located there between, to receive the second signal. A first signal channel having on-axis second signal reject filters connects to the first port; and a second signal channel having cross-axis first signal reject filters connects to the second port. • Publication number: 20060125706
Abstract: A multimode horn used to feed an antenna includes a generally tapered wall for transmitting and/or receiving an electromagnetic signal there through. The wall flares radially outwardly from a throat section to an aperture and defines an internal surface having a plurality of discontinuities. The geometry of the discontinuities are configured and sized to alter the dominant mode, which conveys the communications signal, into a higher order symmetrical mode content to achieve a balance between a plurality of communications performance parameters of the antenna over a pre-determined frequency range of the signal. The discontinuities are also designed to match the horn impedance for the modes of the communications signal and for an asymmetrical mode content of a simultaneously propagating tracking signal.
