  • Publication number: 20230194813
Abstract: An indoor/outdoor micro-duct cable includes a central strength member, and six outer members surrounding the central strength member in a 6@1 configuration. At least one of the outer members is a buffer tube. A plurality of optical fibers are disposed within the buffer tube. The others of the six outer members are filler rods. The cable further includes an outer jacket surrounding the six outer members, the outer jacket having a diameter of less than 9 millimeters and a thickness of less than 1.7 millimeters. The outer jacket is formed from a flame retardant material. The filler rods are formed from a flame retardant material different from the flame retardant material of the outer jacket.

  • Publication number: 20210208352
Abstract: Optical fibers and optical fiber cables for use in high temperature applications are provided. An optical fiber for use in high-temperature applications includes a core, a cladding surrounding the core, a metal coating surrounding the cladding, and a barrier layer surrounding and in direct contact with the metal coating. The barrier layer may include a boron nitride lubricant, the barrier layer being a dried film on the metal coating, in exemplary embodiments having a thickness of between 2 microns and 20 microns. Alternatively, the barrier layer may include a synthetic metallic grease, the synthetic metallic grease in exemplary embodiments having a thickness of between 20 microns and 200 microns.

  • Patent number: 7822306
Abstract: A robust fiber optic cable is well suited for harsh environments, such as undersea environments, as a communication link to a mobile undersea vehicle. In preferred embodiments, the fiber optic cable is constructed to have neutral buoyancy in salt water. The fiber optic cable may include one single mode optical fiber. A suspension fluid, such as light mineral oil surrounds the optical fiber. In an optional embodiment, a plurality of strength members also surrounds the optical fiber and these elements are surrounded by an outer jacket. In another optional embodiment, the optical fiber and suspension fluid may be loosely surrounded by an inner containment tube, a plurality of strength members surrounds the inner containment tube, and these elements are surrounded by an outer jacket, which may be bonded to the inner containment tube.

  • Patent number: 7489844
Abstract: A robust fiber optic cable, which is well suited for harsh environments, such as undersea environments when attached as a tether to a mobile undersea vehicle includes an optical fiber loosely surrounded by an inner containment tube. A suspension fluid is disposed between the inner containment tube and the optical fiber. A plurality of strength members surrounds the inner containment tube, and an outer jacket surrounds said plurality of strength members. In preferred embodiments, the outer jacket is bonded to the strength members and/or the inner containment tube.
