Patent number: 11278120Abstract: A mechanism is provided for a seating unit that moves the seating unit between closed, TV, and fully reclined positions. The mechanism allows independent movement of a seat frame, relative to the chair arms and chair back to which the mechanism is mounted. The mechanism thus allows the seat depth of the chair to be adjusted relative to the chair back to accommodate the individual characteristics of the chair occupant.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2020Date of Patent: March 22, 2022Assignee: L&P Property Management CompanyInventor: Jason Allan Bryant

Patent number: 11229290Abstract: A seating unit is provided with a glider linkage and a powered reclining mechanism, supported on a pedestal base. The glider linkage allows the seating unit to move to and fro in a gliding motion when the seating unit is in the closed position. The powered reclining mechanism allows independent operation of the footrest and back recline, utilizing a two-motor design. As the seating unit moves from the closed position to the TV position, with the footrest extended, a locking linkage prevents the glider linkage from moving. Additionally, the locking of the glider linkage provides at least a portion of the change in pitch of the seat. The recliner linkage provides the remaining portion of the change in pitch of the seat as the mechanism moves from the closed to the TV position. Because the back recline is independent from the footrest extension, the back can be at least partially reclined even when the seating unit is in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2020Date of Patent: January 25, 2022Assignee: LEGGETT & PLATT, INC.Inventor: Jason Allan Bryant

Patent number: 10575644Abstract: A high-load recline mechanism may include a first pair of linkage mechanisms positioned proximate a right side of a base and may also include a second pair of linkage mechanisms positioned proximate the left side of the base. The first pair of linkage mechanisms may be coupled together such that they both move between a closed position and a fully reclined position in unison. The second pair of linkage mechanisms may also be coupled together such that they both move between a closed position and a fully reclined position in unison. A motor drive tube may be coupled to the each of the inside linkage mechanisms of each pair of mechanisms in order to drive all of the linkage mechanisms between the closed position and the fully reclined position in unison. A linear actuator may be coupled between the motor drive tube and the base to actuate the recline mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2018Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: L&P Property Management CompanyInventors: Jason Allan Bryant, Nikki Olen White

Patent number: 10448745Abstract: A split ottoman linkage is provided that has a slotted upper ottoman bracket. The slot of the upper ottoman bracket is shaped to maintain the pivotal coupling between the upper ottoman bracket and a front ottoman link in normal operation. If an entrapment is encountered as the split ottoman linkage closes, the slotted connection allows the upper ottoman bracket to pivot away from the entrapment to provide some relief.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2017Date of Patent: October 22, 2019Assignee: L&P Property Management CompanyInventors: Gregory Mark Lawson, Jason Allan Bryant

Patent number: 9962004Abstract: An ottoman linkage is provided that moves a footrest from a closed position to an extended position. The ottoman linkage includes a front ottoman link coupled to a seat mounting plate, and an outside ottoman link pivotally coupled to the front ottoman link. A rear ottoman link is coupled to the seat mounting plate and the outside ottoman link. An inside ottoman link is pivotally coupled on a first end to the front ottoman link, and pivotally coupled on a second end to a footrest bracket, the inside ottoman link being generally in-line with the outside ottoman link when the mechanism is in an extended position, and the outside ottoman link having a width that obscures the inside ottoman link from view.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2015Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: L&P Property Management CompanyInventors: Jason Allan Bryant, Gregory Mark Lawson

Patent number: 9844269Abstract: A linkage mechanism provides motion capabilities for various chair types. For example, a linkage mechanism includes a combination of links that facilitate ottoman extension/closing and backrest recline/incline. In addition, a linkage mechanism includes a compact design that is usable with hi-leg style chairs having a relatively low seat height. A seating unit with a motorized linkage mechanism is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2015Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: L&P Property Management CompanyInventor: Jason Allan Bryant

Patent number: 9839297Abstract: A split ottoman linkage having a plurality of interconnected links that move a middle ottoman and a front ottoman from a closed position to an extended position. The middle ottoman moves in a relatively constant radial arc, such that a chaise pad can be used on the chair. The middle ottoman and the front ottoman are positioned adjacent one another in the closed position, and are spaced from one another in the extended position.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2015Date of Patent: December 12, 2017Assignee: L&P Property Management CompanyInventors: Gregory Mark Lawson, Jason Allan Bryant

Patent number: 9351576Abstract: A mechanism is provided that allows an assisting force to be imparted on an ottoman as the ottoman moves from an extended position back to a closed position. The linkage includes a rotatable lock bracket and an ottoman lock link pivotally coupled to the lock bracket. A rear ottoman link is pivotally coupled to an ottoman linkage, and a spring activation link is pivotally coupled to the ottoman lock link. A spring extends between the lock bracket and the first end of the spring activation link, supported by a spring retaining link. A catch finger positioned on the rear ottoman link selectively engages the second end of the spring activation link. The spring activation link operates to extend the spring as the ottoman moves from an extended position to a closed position, thereby providing an assisting force in moving the mechanism to the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2015Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Assignee: L&P Property Management CompanyInventors: W. Patent number: 9039078Abstract: A seating unit that includes a linkage mechanism adapted to move the seating unit between seat-lift, closed, extended, reclined, and seat-lift positions is provided. The linkage mechanism includes a seat-mounting plate mounted to a footrest assembly, a base plate fixedly mounted to a lift assembly, a back-mounting link rotatably coupled to the seat-mounting plate, a seat-adjustment assembly with a bellcrank, and a linear actuator for automating adjustment of the linkage mechanism. In operation, a stroke in a first phase of the linear actuator generates a force on the bellcrank that translates the seat-mounting plate rearward in a consistent angle of inclination and rotates the back-mounting link from a reclined to an upright orientation. A stroke in a second phase acts to collapse the footrest assembly. A stroke in a third phase causes the lift assembly to raise and tilt the seating unit, thereby accommodating egress and ingress of an occupant.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2012Date of Patent: May 26, 2015Assignee: L&P Property Management CompanyInventors: Gregory M Lawson, Jason Allan Bryant
