Abstract: In an approach to improve write transducers a write transducer for recording data on a magnetic media is disclosed. The write transducer comprises a first pole piece. The write transducer further comprises a second pole piece. The first pole piece and the second pole piece are arranged in such a way, that a write gap is formed between the first pole piece and the second pole piece. A longitudinal axis is defined between opposite ends of the write gap. A length of the write gap along the longitudinal axis varies in the direction transverse to the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 11918132
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for a self-deploying tree are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a self-deploying tree system comprises a top tree assembly, a main tree assembly, and a base. The lower end of the top tree assembly may be coupled to the upper end of the main tree assembly, and the lower end of the main tree assembly may be coupled to the base, providing a vertical orientation of the self-deploying tree system. The self-deploying tree system further comprises a deployment mechanism which may be activated to automatically convert the tree from a collapsed configuration to a deployed configuration or from a deployed configuration to a collapsed configuration. The collapsed configuration comprises a reduced height and a reduced circumference to allow for ease of handling and storage. The deployed configuration provides for the tree to be extended to a desired height and for deployment of the limbs as desired for display.

  • Patent number: 11810602
Abstract: Provided are a magnetic tape head, a magnetic tape drive, and a computational device in which the magnetic tape head is comprised of a plurality of elements, wherein a pitch between adjacent elements of the plurality of elements is not identical. Selected elements of the plurality of elements that are shifted from a nominal position are selected in a symmetrical manner in the plurality of elements. • Patent number: 11701576
Abstract: An environment includes one or more clients, a game mediator server, and a game server connected by a network. The clients include a game mediator and a game. The game server executes game playing sessions of the games. The game mediator server and the game mediators form a game mediation infrastructure to mediate game playing sessions. For example, the game mediation infrastructure creates “lobbies” for game playing sessions and enables clients connected to lobbies to communicate with one another. The games receive interactions at the client and communicate with the game server to impact execution of game playing sessions. The game mediator server sends deep links to clients, e.g., to initiate game installation, or to start the game at a particular portion of the game. The game mediation infrastructure may also enrich gameplay by customizing gameplay and/or the lobby, e.g. based on events that occur during execution of the game playing session, or locations of the clients.

  • Patent number: 11642596
Abstract: Within a multiplayer gaming environment, a game mediation infrastructure facilitates the creation and use of multiplayer gaming sessions. The game mediation infrastructure allows leveraging the context of an existing gameplay session within a game (e.g., the game being played, the identities of the participants) to begin a corresponding session in a game mediator application. The session in the game mediator application provides functionality—such as game-related communication capabilities—that is superior to that provided by the game itself. These actions by the game mediation infrastructure reduce or eliminate steps that would otherwise have to be performed by users, thereby greatly simplifying user coordination for multiplayer gaming.

  • Publication number: 20230051955
Abstract: The present invention relates to metalearning of deep neural network (DNN) architectures and hyperparameters. Precisely, the present system and method utilizes Evolutionary Population-Based Based Training (EPBT) that interleaves the training of a DNN's weights with the metalearning of loss functions. They are parameterized using multivariate Taylor expansions that EPBT can directly optimize. Further, EPBT based system and method uses a quality-diversity heuristic called Novelty Pulsation as well as knowledge distillation to prevent overfitting during training. The discovered hyperparameters adapt to the training process and serve to regularize the learning task by discouraging overfitting to the labels. EPBT thus demonstrates a practical instantiation of regularization metalearning based on simultaneous training.

  • Patent number: 11562768
Abstract: An apparatus includes a magnetic head having a first array of read transducers, an array of write transducers, and a second array of read transducers. A center-to-center pitch of the read transducers in the first array is less than a center-to-center pitch of the write transducers. A center-to-center pitch of the read transducers in the second array is greater than a center-to-center pitch of the write transducers. The read transducers in the first and second arrays are aligned with the write transducers along an intended direction of tape travel thereacross for enabling read-while-write operation.

  • Patent number: 11465056
Abstract: Users play electronic games on their client devices, such as smartphones, laptop computers, game consoles, or the like. A game mediation component supplements the electronic games by providing additional functionality for group gameplay, such as communication among the players participating in the gameplay group, emphasizing key moments in the gameplay, saving and sharing of portions of the group gameplay, etc. Events related to gameplay, such as environmental events or in-game events, cause the game mediation component to take an action to supplement the gameplay, such as modifying an overlay user interface to provide additional gameplay data while efficiently using screen real estate, sending messages to other players in the group gameplay, and saving and sharing portions of gameplay session.

  • Patent number: 11170810
Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed for a method. The method includes determining a reference plane for a tape drive read-write array. The tape drive read-write array includes a first array element, a predetermined array element, and a last array element. Further, determining the reference plane is based on a first array position of the first array element and a last array position of the last array element. The method also includes capturing a position of a predetermined array element using an imaging device. The method further includes determining a deviation of the captured position from the reference plane. Additionally, the method includes generating a plot of an in-plane bow based on the deviation.

  • Patent number: 11170142
Abstract: In an approach for providing simulation results of an interaction between a transducer head and a magnetic medium, a computer identifies a first raster scan of a sample via a scanning probe microscope. The computer generates a topography image based on the first raster scan of the sample. The computer identifies one or more reference features within the created topography image. The computer calculates an average height based on the one or more reference features. The computer determines a lift distance associated with a probe of the scanning probe microscope. The computer defines a uniform plane based on the calculated average height and the determined lift distance. The computer performs a second raster scan of the sample based on the defined uniform plane. The computer generates a fly-height image based on the second raster scan. The computer provides simulation results based at least in part on the second raster scan.
