  • Publication number: 20050136766
Abstract: A biodegradable, cellulose-based collecting sheet that can be used in either a wet state or a dry state. The collecting sheet may be a double recreped cellulose substrate reinforced with a binder, such as a latex binder. Alternatively, or in addition to the binder, the collecting sheet may be coated with a dielectric material and electret treated to establish a charge on the dielectric material. Additionally, the collecting sheet may be embossed to provide more interstices and greater surface area to enhance the pick-up ability of the collecting sheet. The invention further includes a method of forming such a collecting sheet.

  • Publication number: 20050130253
Abstract: Solvatochromic dyes are used herein to indicate the presence of bacteria by incorporating them into various substrates such as films, woven and nonwoven fabrics, paper towels, coform and airlaid materials and bonded carded webs. These dyes change color in response to a change in polarity of the environment. Since water is a polar solvent and most bacteria are made from non-polar substances, the presence of bacteria changes the polarity of the environment, triggering a change visible by the unaided eye. A lateral flow device incorporating solvatochromic dyes and a method of detecting bacteria are also included.

  • Patent number: 6780896
Abstract: Zinc-complex photoiniators and applications therefore are disclosed. The zinc-complex photoinitiators of the present invention include various pendent groups which serve to protect the compound from hydrolysis. In this manner, the stability of the photoinitiator is increased. The photoinitiators of the present invention can be used in many different processes and applications. For example, the photoinitiators are well suited for use in photocurable inks as used in ink jet printers or on a printing press.

  • Publication number: 20040120904
Abstract: A delivery system for various functional compounds is disclosed. The delivery system incorporates a composition containing alumina. Various functional materials containing particular moieties may be adsorbed onto the alumina and used as desired. The functional compounds can be, for instance, pharmaceuticals, xenobiotics, anti-microbial agents, anti-viral agents, UV absorbers, odor control agents, fragrances, and the like. In one particular embodiment, for instance, certain dyes can be adsorbed onto the alumina surfaces. Once the dye is adsorbed onto the alumina surface, the resulting particles can be combined with a liquid vehicle for use in any suitable printing process.

  • Publication number: 20040100376
Abstract: A wireless healthcare monitoring system and method are provided. At least one UWB biosensor transmitter is assigned to at least one individual to be remotely monitored. The biosensor transmitter includes a biosensor disposed to detect a health condition of a user and generate a corresponding biosensor reading. The reading is converted by the biosensor transmitter to an ultra wideband (UWB) biosensor signal transmitted by the biosensor transmitter. A UWB receiver disposed remote from and within range of the transmitter receives and converts the UWB biosensor signal to a signal containing information from the biosensor reading. A processor in communication with the UWB receiver processes and displays the converted signal as a readable output indicating a health condition of the user detected by the biosensor.
