  • Patent number: 8589932
Abstract: Data processing workload control in a data center is provided, where the data center includes computers whose operations consume power and a workload controller composed of automated computing machinery that controls the overall data processing workload in the data center. The data processing workload is composed of a plurality of specific data processing jobs, including scheduling, by the workload controller in dependence upon power performance information, the data processing jobs for execution upon the computers in the data center, the power performance information including power consumption at a plurality of power-conserving states for each computer in the data center that executes data processing jobs and dispatching by the workload controller the data processing jobs as scheduled for execution on computers in the data center.

  • Patent number: 8266291
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for dynamic property volatility assessment for distributed manageable resources are provided. The method includes determining whether a property value of a remote resource has an associated volatility measurement. In response to determining that the property value of the remote resource has the associated volatility measurement, a network transaction is invoked to retrieve the property value at an interval that is less than or equal to the associated volatility measurement. In response to determining that the property value of the remote resource does not include the associated volatility measurement, a frequency-based assessment is performed comparing a frequency of change and a frequency of access for the property value. Caching the property value is performed in response to comparing the frequency-based assessment to a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 8234283
Abstract: A method of reporting search results of a collection of data is disclosed. The method includes obtaining a hash function and a pattern of data for which to search within the collection of data and searching the collection of data for one or more strings of data that match the pattern. In response to finding one or more strings of data that match the pattern, the method further includes hashing each string that matches the pattern of data with the hash function and creating one or more rows of a results table. Each row of the results table corresponds to one string of data that matches the pattern of data and includes the corresponding hashed string of data.

  • Publication number: 20110083172
Abstract: A method, computer readable medium and apparatus for providing data security for a computing environment having a plurality of nodes are provided. The apparatus comprises of a password mechanism residing in a storage location in the computing environment; and a user specific dictionary including entries generated by the password mechanism about each user by retrieving available data from one or more databases. The password mechanism rejects a proposed password for the user by comparing it with entries in the user specific dictionary when the proposed password matches at least part of any entry in the user specific dictionary.
