Patent number: 8613644Abstract: A tool for moving an abrasive media can include a tool body and a drive system housed in the tool body. The drive system can include an output member. A retaining member can be disposed on the tool body. A first platen having a first attachment hub can be selectively coupled with the retaining member in an installed position. The first platen can have a first rotatable member that selectively attaches to the output member in a first mode of operation. A second platen having a second attachment hub can selectively couple with the retaining member in an installed position. Publication number: 20130327552Abstract: A handheld power tool is configured to receive an input indicative of a clutch setting for an electronic clutch from the tool operator, where the clutch setting is selectable from a drill mode, an automated drive mode and one or more user-defined drive modes. Each of the user-defined drive modes specifies a different value of torque at which to interrupt transmission of torque to the output spindle. In an automated drive mode, the controller interrupt torque to the output spindle in an automated manner when a fastener being driven reaches a desired stopping position. In a selected one of the user-defined drive modes, the controller sets a value of a maximum current threshold in accordance with the selected one of the user-defined drive modes and interrupts torque to the output spindle when current measures exceeding the maximum current threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2013Publication date: December 12, 2013Applicant: BLACK & DECKER INC.Inventors: Shaun Lovelass, Marco A. Mattucci, Jason McRoberts, David Miller, Christopher J. Murray, Wong Kun Ng, Steven J. Phillips, Jonathan Priestly, Fugen Qin, Oleksiy Sergyeyenko, Christopher W. Shook, Kevin Stones

Publication number: 20130228355Abstract: A power tool including a power tool base unit with a motor surrounded by a motor housing a first coupler operably connected to the motor and a ledge. An attachment head is removably attached to the base unit, the attachment head including a second coupler, the first and second couplers being coupled together to transfer rotational motion from the motor to the attachment head. An angle between a longitudinal axis of the handle and a longitudinal axis of the motor is between 50 and 120 degrees. The ledge extends outwardly from the power tool base in a direction towards the attachment head in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the motor.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2013Publication date: September 5, 2013Inventors: Brent A. Patent number: 8435097Abstract: A reduced height quarter sheet sander has a housing having first and second halves mated together. An upper portion of the housing provides a handle. A pair of brush boxes is disposed in the housing on opposite sides of a commutator of an electric motor disposed in the housing. In an aspect, a switch disposed in the handle of the housing and a terminal block (at which a cordset that enters the housing terminates) disposed in the handle of the housing have generally the same horizontal elevation as the brush boxes (when the sander is lying upright). In an aspect, the stator is disposed in the housing so that the field coils extend across the housing from one half to the other half and outside the lower screw bosses.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2012Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Jason McRoberts, Terry L. Turner, Jennifer A. Resh, Timothy W. French, Jr.

Publication number: 20120099936Abstract: A power drill can comprise a housing having a motor that includes an output member. A rotary output spindle can be journaled in the housing. A transmission can be disposed in the housing and include a first output gear and a second output gear. The transmission can selectively couple the output member to the output spindle through one of the first output gear or the second output gear for rotating the output spindle at one of a first speed or a second speed, respectively. A speed shift assembly can include a guide plate and a user engageable member. The guide plate can selectively influence movement of the first and second output gears. The user engageable member can be movable between a first speed position and a second speed position. Movement between the first and second positions can cause the second output gear to at least partially nest into the first output gear.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2010Publication date: April 26, 2012Inventors: Frederick R.
