Patent number: 11617908Abstract: A fire apparatus includes an engine, a fluid delivery system, and a controller. The fluid delivery system includes a first pump that provides a first fluid output at a first pressure, and a second pump positioned downstream of and coupled to the first pump in a serial arrangement. The second pump is driven by the engine. The second pump provides a second fluid output at a second pressure. During a first mode, the first fluid output is dischargeable from a low pressure discharge. During a second mode, the second fluid output is dischargeable from a first high pressure discharge and/or a second high pressure discharge, the engine operates at a first set point when the second fluid output is discharged from the first high pressure discharge, and the engine operates at a second set point when the second fluid output is discharged from the second high pressure discharge.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2020Date of Patent: April 4, 2023Assignee: Oshkosh Defense, LLCInventors: Jason R. Shively, David R. Kay, Scott A. McComber, Seth M. Newlin, John D. Woelfel

Patent number: 10843017Abstract: A fire fighting vehicle includes a chassis, an engine coupled to the chassis, a fluid tank configured to store a fluid, a fluid delivery system, and a controller. The fluid delivery system includes a first pump, a second pump, a low pressure discharge, a first high pressure discharge, and a second high pressure discharge. The first pump is coupled to the fluid tank and configured to pump the fluid therefrom at a first pressure. The second pump is positioned downstream of and coupled to the first pump in a serial arrangement. The controller is configured to selectively vary at least one of a speed, a power output, and a torque output of the engine and thereby provide the fluid to at least one of the first high pressure discharge and the second high pressure discharge at a target discharge pressure.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2016Date of Patent: November 24, 2020Assignee: Oshkosh Defense, LLCInventors: Jason R. Patent number: 10544556Abstract: A broom assembly for a vehicle includes a frame, a broom core axle rotatably coupled to the frame and defining an axis around which a broom rotates, an actuator coupled to the frame and positioned to raise and lower the axle relative to the frame, and a controller. The controller has an output for adjusting the actuator and an input for receiving information from a sensor. To account for the estimated wear, the controller is configured to use the received information to automatically lower the axle over a period of operation and use the sensor input to controllably adjust the actuator to a position setpoint changing over the period of operation. After operation, the controller is configured to use the sensor input to determine a current position, add an offset to the current position to achieve a new sensor target setpoint, and use the new setpoint to adjust the output.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2016Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: Oshkosh CorporationInventors: Bashar M. Amin, Mitch F. Sears, Ben G. Lochner, Jason M. Ollanketo, Jason R. Shively, Sean Strosahl, Kellie Watters
