  • Publication number: 20240164778
Abstract: An apparatus includes a proximal body portion configured to be gripped by a user, a distal body portion that terminates at a spreading tip configured to spread a topical skin adhesive along an application surface, and a flexural body portion that interconnects the proximal and distal body portions to define a monolithic body. In response to an input force applied by a user to the proximal body portion when the spreading tip is positioned against the application surface, the flexural body portion is configured to buckle non-uniformly along a lateral width of the apparatus. Additionally, or alternatively, the flexural body portion is configured to elastically deform so that the distal body portion angularly deflects relative to the proximal body portion to thereby limit to a predetermined range a resultant normal force exerted by the spreading tip on the topical skin adhesive along the application surface.

  • Publication number: 20230263519
Abstract: A wound closure device includes a filamentary element having a proximal end and a distal end, and a plurality of barbs extending outwardly from the filamentary element. Each barb has a base connected with the filamentary element, a tip spaced from the base, and an outer edge that extends between the base and the tip. The outer edge includes a first section having a concave surface that extends between the base and a transition point of the barb and a second section having a convex surface that extends between the transition point of the barb and the tip of the barb. The outer edge transforms from the concave surface of the first section to the convex curve of the second section at the transition point of the barb. The tip of the barb has a convexly curved surface facing the distal end of the filamentary element.

  • Publication number: 20220395273
Abstract: A repaired tendon includes a proximal tendon section having a free end, and a distal tendon section having a free end that opposes the free end of the proximal tendon section. Four bidirectional barbed sutures are implanted in the repaired tendon for approximating the free end of the proximal tendon section with the free end of the distal tendon section. Each of the four bidirectional barbed sutures includes a proximal section having proximal barbs that engage the proximal tendon section, a distal section having distal barbs that engage the distal tendon section, and a stop located between the proximal and distal barbs that engages the approximated free ends of the proximal and distal tendon sections. The bidirectional barbed sutures have first suture bites and second suture bites that are shorter than the first suture bites.

  • Publication number: 20210386423
Abstract: A braided barbed suture includes a barbed monofilament insert including an elongated core having a thickness and a plurality of barbs projecting outwardly from opposite sides of the elongated core. The braided barbed suture includes a braided sheath surrounding the elongated core to form a composite core of the braided barbed suture. The composite core has a thickness and the elongated core is located in a center of the composite core. The elongated core thickness is about 6-8 mil and the composite core thickness is about 13-18 mil. A ratio of the elongated core thickness relative to the composite core thickness is between about 0.16 to 0.91. The elongated core has transition zones that form a concave profile. The braided barbed suture has a single breaking point for both the braided sheath and the barbed monofilament insert. The barbed monofilament insert has a PDS monofilament core, and the braided sheath is a VICRYL multifilament yarn braided sheath.
