  • Patent number: 6875106
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a gaming device in which a player is awarded outright for a winning combination and is eligible for a reward if the displayed outcome can be manipulated by the gaming device to produce a winning combination. A special bar symbol can be coupled with a certain bar subset of the universe of symbols to initiate a further award, perhaps coupled with a multiplier. Preferably, a bonus is provided which includes overlapping exhibitors such as wheels having a sector defining the overlap indicating a bonus element which is placed on an array. A series of elements on the array, when forming a pattern which is recognized by the game results in added credits.

  • Patent number: 6855052
Abstract: A gaming device having a first chance opportunity and a second, serially dependent, chance opportunity is provided. The first chance opportunity is preferably a multiple reel game having a special outcome for triggering the second chance opportunity. The second chance opportunity is preferably a plurality of wheels rotatably coupled to a tower atop the reel game. The first of the wheels will spin and provide an outcome upon a specified outcome of the reel game. Each successive wheel will spin when a specified outcome is depicted on a previous wheel. This will continue until either the specified outcome does not occur or the last wheel is spun. In another version, plural wheels are each uniquely related—one to a given reel, such that a certain reel outcome will energize its associated wheel only. Multiple wheels, when synchronized to a certain outcome, lead to a bigger wheel for a jackpot.

  • Patent number: 6764398
Abstract: A method and device for gaming, in which a primary game is played toward a winning outcome, and in which a secondary game is played concurrently with the primary game, using outcomes on the primary game to determine the outcome of the secondary game. The secondary game is entirely different from the primary game, and play continues on the secondary game through successive primary games. The player may increase the chances of winning the secondary game by either increasing the wager, which increases the total number of outcomes that apply to the secondary game, or by choosing a variation of the secondary game that has more winning outcomes possible.

  • Patent number: 6743096
Abstract: A method and device for gaming, in which a primary game is played toward a winning outcome, but including a bonus event triggered by a particular outcome or outcomes. The bonus event is characterized by allowance of play against the device to earn awards, the magnitude of such awards to be determined by the relative final successes based on simulated competition between the player and the device.

  • Publication number: 20020193158
Abstract: A gaming device having a first chance means and a second, serially dependent, chance means is provided. The first chance means is preferably a multiple reel game having a special outcome for triggering the second chance means. The second chance means is preferably a plurality of wheels rotatably coupled to a tower atop the reel game. • Patent number: 5947821
Abstract: An apparatus and method for playing a card game which provides a player with an initial choice of selecting at least one card from a plurality of cards to be designated as a wild card. The player then receives a random first hand from a full deck of cards. The first hand of cards are compared with the designated wild card to determine all matching cards and designating all matching cards in the first hand as wild cards. The player may then be provided with the option of replacing cards in the first hand with cards remaining in the deck. All replacement cards which match the wild card will also become wild. The player is also provided with an option of buying a second wild card after a losing card hand. This provides the player with an opportunity to change a losing card hand into a winning card hand. After a winning card hand the player is provided with a double or nothing option which provides a further dynamic game exchange between player and game.

  • Patent number: 5839957
Abstract: A reel mechanism for use in a gaming machine including an integrally formed stepping motor/encoder assembly operatively coupled to a rotatable reel having an annular row of various symbols which are to be sequentially displayed in a visual field. The stepping motor/encoder assembly includes an integrally formed encoder wheel and sensing means. A processor/controller is operatively coupled to the stepping motor/encoder assembly for controlling the stepping motor drive signals, reading signals from the sensing means and storing in an associated memory a plurality of encoded reel stop positions which are a representation of physical stop positions on the reel. The processor/controller signals the stepping motor to spin the reel and while the reel is spinning, a random number generator means associated with the processor/controller determines a reel stop which corresponds to a specific position of a the reel.

  • Patent number: 5371345
Abstract: Providing change to gaming machine players is facilitated by the use of a change card having a memory storing a cash value which a change person can use to input a credit into a gaming machine in exchange for cash from a player. A game monitor unit having a card reader, a keypad and a display is attached to the gaming machine and can be used to authorize and transfer a selected cash value to the credit meter of the gaming machine from the change card. Cash values along with authorizations and security codes are input to the change card at a change station utilizing a similar monitor unit. Financial controls and security can be enhanced by transmitting data relating to change card transactions from the gaming machine and the change station to a central data system.
