Publication number: 20220292058Abstract: An electronic file storage system has a processor. A memory is coupled to the processor, the memory storing program instructions, wherein the program instructions when executed by the processor, causes the processor to: implement a special control request that creates a file and updates attributes of the file.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2022Publication date: September 15, 2022Applicant: KOMPRISE, INC.Inventors: JAYALAKSHMI PATTABIRAMAN, MEHDI NAZEMI

Patent number: 11340812Abstract: A first plurality of block identifiers is sorted based, at least in part, on a measure of spatial locality. A second plurality of block identifiers is sorted based, at least in part, on the measure of spatial locality. At least the first plurality of block identifiers and the second plurality of block identifiers are incrementally merged into a third plurality of block identifiers based, at least in part, on the measure of spatial locality. A block of data corresponding to metadata associated with a plurality of block identifiers of the third plurality of block identifiers is updated.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2020Date of Patent: May 24, 2022Assignee: NETAPP, INC.Inventors: Jayalakshmi Pattabiraman, Nikhil Mattankot, Deekshith Belchapada, Blake H. Patent number: 9965196Abstract: Storage systems track free blocks using various data structures and maps. For instance, free block maps may contain data blocks with values that indicate whether a block is free or not. When an operation results in a block being freed, the relevant data block in the maps must be written during an I/O operation to update the value. Large numbers of updates my occur after an operation that frees a large numbers of blocks, which can lead to performance degradation. Accordingly, disclosed are systems and methods for deferring updating of free block data tracking structures using logs.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2014Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: NETAPP, INC.Inventors: Rohit Singh, Jungsook Yang, Rajesh Khandelwal, Jayalakshmi Pattabiraman

Publication number: 20160110121Abstract: It is determined that a first set of one or more blocks associated with a file system are to be freed. Each of the first set of blocks is associated with a block identifier. In response to a determination that the first set of blocks is to be freed, it is determined that a first log has been allocated an insufficient number of data blocks to store the block identifiers that are associated with the first set of blocks. In response to a determination that the first log has been allocated an insufficient number of data blocks, one or more data blocks are allocated to the first log. It is indicated that one or more block identifiers are to be removed from the first log and added to a second log. It is indicated that metadata associated with a second set of one or more blocks is to be updated.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2014Publication date: April 21, 2016Inventors: Rohit Singh, Jungsook Yang, Rajesh Khandelwal, Jayalakshmi Pattabiraman

Patent number: 8620874Abstract: A source application reads a body of data in data block sized units and calculates a checksum value for each data block before sending the data block, the calculated checksum value and the identifier. Upon receipt, a destination application independently calculates a checksum value for each received data block and compares the two checksums. Non-matching checksums indicate a network-induced error in the data block. Identifiers for the erroneous data blocks are transmitted to the source application after all of the data blocks have been initially transmitted. The source application thereafter resends only those data blocks identified. The destination application repeats the process of comparing checksums and transmitting identifiers to the source application until all of the data blocks of the body of data have been correctly received, and then uses the data blocks to recreate the body of data.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2011Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: NetApp, Inc.Inventors: Felix Xavier, Kevin Varghese, Tijin George, Jayalakshmi Pattabiraman
