    Abstract: Disclosed is an intelligent display method for a multimedia mobile terminal. The method includes the steps of determining a type of a camera shot existing in a sport game video; deciding a region of interest within an image frame of the sport game video when it has been determined that the camera shot is a long-distance shot, magnifying the region of interest, and displaying the region of interest on the mobile terminal, and displaying the entire image frame on the mobile terminal when it has been determined that the video shot is a non-long-distance shot. The method enables the user to watch images in a more understandable and comfortable manner.

    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for recognizing characters using an image are provided. A camera is activated according to a character recognition request and a preview mode is set for displaying an image photographed through the camera in real time. An auto focus of the camera is controlled and an image having a predetermined level of clarity is obtained for character recognition from the images obtained in the preview mode. The image for character recognition is character-recognition-processed so as to extract recognition result data. A final recognition character row is drawn that excludes non-character data from the recognition result data. A first word is combined including at least one character of the final recognition character row and a predetermined maximum number of characters. A dictionary database that stores dictionary information on various languages using the first word is searched, so as to provide the user with the corresponding word.

The method includes the steps of determining if a background color exists on a projection screen using a portable camera, converting the size of a mask image in order to connect a spatial position of an original image and an image photographed by a camera, correcting brightness of the mask image in order to correct non-homogeneity of the brightness of the projected image due to the distribution of different brightness values of the background color, and correcting the background color in order to correct color distortion of the image projected in different colors on the background color.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating a thumbnail image are provided so that the out-of-focus (OOF) information can be ascertained from looking at the thumbnail. An input image is decoded, and a degree of the amount of OOF of the decoded image is measured (OOF information). There is a determination as to whether or not there is an EXchangeable Image File (EXIF) information about the input image. In the presence of EXIF information, a thumbnail image is extracted from the EXIF information and as much an OOF effect is applied to the thumbnail image in accordance with the degree of OOF. In the absence of the EXIF information, a thumbnail image is generated by scaling down the decoded image at a down scaler and applying as much of an OOF effect is applied to the thumbnail image in accordance with the degree of OOF.

The received RGB signal is converted into first tristimulus values, then to L, a, b color space valueslightness (L), chroma (C), and hue (H) values using a predetermined equation. The brightness of an entire region of the image is adjusted and output on the display screen of the mobile terminal, and the chroma of each pixel region is adjusted by using the L, C, and H values.
