  • Patent number: 5798153
Abstract: A linking device intended notably for the connection of rods made of a composite material based on polymerizable resin and reinforcing fibers includes a tubular sleeve tightly connected to one end of a rod by plastic deformation of the sleeve placed around said end. The device is formed by a process for fastening linking means on elongated elements made of a composite material.

  • Patent number: 5505259
Abstract: A measuring device in a hydrocarbon producing well includes a rod made from a composite material stiff against compression and flectionally elastic. An information transfer line is contained in the rod. The rod includes a plurality of measuring stations thereon and it is suited for being wound on a reel. The device is utilized to practice a measuring method.

  • Patent number: 5348097
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for carrying out measuring and/or servicing operations in a well (4), comprising a tubing (2) adapted for being coiled round a drum (1) and a measuring instrument (3) fastened to the end of the tubing. The tubing comprises inwardly a rod (17) elastic in flexure and resisting to compressive stress, well suited for allowing the introduction thereof into tubing (2), notably by thrust. An energy or information transfer line (12) is incorporated during manufacturing of rod (17).Rod (17) is made of a polymeric material comprising reinforcing fibers and it is centered inside the tubing. The invention further relates to a process for assembling the rod in the tubing and to the use of the device in a well producing an oil effluent.

  • Patent number: 5348084
Abstract: A device for carrying out at least one of measuring or servicing operations in a well, with the device including a rod which is stiff against compression and elastic in flexure and a measuring instrument fastened to an end of the rod. The rod includes a core having a flattened cross sectional shape adapted to provide the rod with a high flexibility in flexure in a first plane, with respect to a flexure in a plane orthogonal to the first plane. At least one energy or information transfer line is incorporated or embedded during manufacturing the core which is made of a composite material. A sheath embedded in the core so as to provide the rod a substantially cylindrical outer shape. The device is applicable to be used in a well producing an oil effluent.

  • Patent number: 5310012
Abstract: The present invention is a device for the remote actuation of equipment (3) associated with a drill string (1) through a hydraulic displacement mechanism (10;53,58) co-operating with a distributor (7;25,26,27;47) associated with the drilling fluid. The displacement mechanism directly converts the hydraulic energy of the drilling fluid into actuating mechanical energy with the co-operation of no other fluid than the drilling fluid. The invention further relates to an actuating method using the device and has an application of directional drilling in the petroleum field.
