  • Patent number: 11959860
Abstract: The present document describes a method for the detection of off-flavor maple syrup made from buddy maple sap or maple sap contaminated with buddy maple sap, or off-flavor maple sap. The method involves the measurement of a spectrophotometric property of a nanoparticle reactive with a buddy maple sample having a size of from about 1 nm to about 250 nm contacting a maple syrup or maple sap sample. A change in the spectrophotometric property is associated with an off-flavor maple syrup or maple sap sample, and no change in the spectrophotometric property is associated with a good flavor maple syrup or maple sap sample.

  • Patent number: 6762160
Abstract: This invention relates to compositions for removing biofilms from contaminated surfaces. The compositions minimally comprise a detergent and a salt or a salt-forming acid. Preferably, the compositions comprise a detergent and a salt-forming acid, to provide salts and acids in equilibrium, in such a way that the biofilm is rapidly dismantled and removed in such an environment. The compositions may also comprise a bactericide, for destroying bacteria.

  • Patent number: 6707254
Abstract: A system and a method for sterilizing objects, in particular medical instruments and accessories, using gas plasma, also called ionized gas. The gases used to form the plasma do not require to exhibit an intrinsic sterilizing activity. The sterilizing properties result from the passage through an electric field generating the plasma, an electric field which is provided by microwaves, a gas stream including oxygen in molecular form (O2) or as a gas element, and atomic or molecular species capable of emitting UV radiation once they have been energized. The system and method provide the advantage of making it possible to treat heat-sensitive and thermolabile objects at temperatures less than 50° C. using gases presenting no risks for the operator.

  • Patent number: 6233879
Abstract: A double pivotable door, particularly for use with modular office partitions is disclosed. The double pivotable door includes a frame, which is mounted to a partition by at least one hinge having a first axis of rotation. The frame include a door which is mounted to the frame and can rotate about a second axis of rotation, where the second axis of rotation is parallel but spaced from the first axis of rotation. The door can thus be mounted to partitions where there is limited space, and can rotate about the first axis, as a typical door, or rotate about the first and second axes simultaneously, thereby reducing by approximately half the clearance required for opening and closing the door. Preferably, the door includes a mechanism to prevent the door from pivoting about the second axis. Also preferably, the handle for the door is integral therewith.

  • Patent number: 5942480
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a synergistic cleaning and disinfecting composition for use in decontaminating biofilm-coated surfaces like fresh water lines providing water supply to dental instruments, these lines being susceptible to contamination by microorganisms and being susceptible to the formation of biofilm coatings on their inner walls, the composition comprising an effective amount of a detergent, an effective amount of a denaturing agent attacking the extracellular matrix formed between microorganisms and between microorganisms and the inner walls of these water lines and an effective amount of a bactericide for destroying the microorganisms.

  • Patent number: 5837204
Abstract: A system for disinfecting the water lines of a dental unit is provided with first and second unidirectional check valves. Water at a first pressure is normally supplied to the water lines of the dental unit through the first check valve. A reservoir of liquid disinfectant can be pressurized at a second pressure higher than the first pressure by the air compressor already equipping the dental unit to supply disinfectant to the water lines of the dental unit through the second check valve. Liquid disinfectant is prevented from reaching the water supply line by the first check valve. In the same manner, when the reservoir is not pressurized, the second check valve prevents water from the water supply line from reaching the disinfectant.

  • Patent number: 5455176
Abstract: A test device for evaluating microbial contamination of a liquid comprises a hollow container unit defining a first compartment for containing a nutrient for growing microorganisms and a second compartment for containing a contamination indicating coloring agent. The first compartment is filled with the liquid to be tested, which liquid mixes with the nutrient to grow the microorganisms during a predetermined period of time. During growth of the microorganisms, a sealing mechanism isolates the first and second compartments from each other. After the predetermined period of time has elapsed, the sealing mechanism is operated to establish communication between the first and second compartments to thereby mix the coloring agent from the second compartment with the liquid from the first compartment. In the presence of microorganisms, the coloring agent colors the liquid to indicate contamination thereof.
