  • Patent number: 6397595
Abstract: A pyrotechnic actuator comprises a deformable membrane (24) separating a first chamber (20), which is able to receive pyrotechnic combustion gases, from a second chamber (22) containing a control member (32) displaceable by the membrane (24) during the operation of the actuator. In the inoperative state, the membrane (24) is prestressed counter to its deformation controlled by the intake of gases into the first chamber (20). In this way the functional travel is increased, which e.g. makes it possible to open or close a circuit with a larger cross-section without increasing the actuator size.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 17, 2001
Date of Patent: June 4, 2002
    Assignee: Eads Launch Vehicle
Inventors: Emmanuel Benoit, Jean-François Beau, Erwan Le Floch

  • Patent number: 5827993
Abstract: A pyrotechnic ignition device for a gas generator (G), in which: (i) at least in the vicinity of the primary charge (CP), the transmission line (L) is at least substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis (X--X) of the outer case (E) of the generator (G); (ii) the end of the transmission line, provided with a deflagrating terminal lead charge (r), emerges in a sealed intermediate chamber (CI); and (iii) the intermediate chamber (CI) is connected to the primary charge (CP) via at least one throttling vent (e) having an axis (1--1) at least approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis (X--X) of the outer case (E).

  • Patent number: 4777795
Abstract: The device comprises, at the outlet of the combustion chamber 3, a movable assembly comprising a hollow closure member 26 constituting a needle 27, a thermal shield 22 and an annular piston 14. This closure member acts as a piston under the effect of the pressure of the gases and drives the annular piston so as to expel a hydraulic fluid from a jack chamber 33 having an adjustable outlet 34. The closure member 26 defines a chamber 28 for calming the gases.

  • Patent number: 4346949
Abstract: Rotor assembly comprises a rotor and a bearing having inner and outer races with rolling elements disposed therebetween, one of the races being secured to the rotor and the other thereof being secured to a rotatable annular member concentric with the rotor. Magnetic means secured to each of the races cooperate to take up the axial clearance of the bearing, reducing it to virtually zero.

  • Patent number: 4347449
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for making a magnetic armature of divided structure of annular shape and provided with a concentric annular groove, comprising the steps of winding a filamentary magnetic material on an annular mandrel, impregnating said winding with a hardening material, then cutting said winding along the equatorial plane of said mandrel, after said material has hardened. The invention is more particularly applicable to the production of divided magnetic armatures, especially for magnetic bearings.
