  • Patent number: 10564687
Abstract: Techniques for implementing a fan-less mode in a Power over Ethernet (PoE) network device are provided. According to one set of embodiments, the PoE network device can receive a user command to enable the fan-less mode. In response to the command, the PoE network device can (1) turn off the active cooling fans of the device, and (2) modify a PoE power budget of the device from a first amount to a second, reduced amount that is less than the first amount.

  • Patent number: 8990619
Abstract: Stackable Layer 2 switches may be upgraded through a stateless upgrade procedure that minimizes software upgrade complexity while leveraging the intrinsic redundancy of the network to minimize traffic disruption. Disclosed methods may be targeted to platforms that lack support for other non-disruptive upgrade technologies, but that can leverage the intrinsic network redundancy to minimize traffic impact during a stack upgrade.

  • Patent number: 8352934
Abstract: The invention relates to upgrading software or firmware in a network. The invention simplify the process of upgrading the software or firmware by using a drag and drop mechanism. Accordingly, with the help of a user-friendly GUI, a user initiates the process of upgrading by dragging and dropping a software icon onto a device icon. The software icon may represent the software to be used for upgrading and the device icon may represent a network device including the software or firmware that is to be upgraded. A set of checks is performed during the process of upgrading. The set of checks includes checking the compatibility of the software used for upgrading with the network device.
