Patent number: 10024992Abstract: An acoustic tool for evaluating a geologic formation includes a housing member disposed between transmitter and receiver sections of the acoustic tool. The housing member defines a change in direction in an acoustic path extending therethrough such that acoustic signals traveling through the housing member are delayed and disrupted. The delay and disruption may isolate the acoustic signals traveling through the housing member from acoustic signals traveling through the geologic formation. Thus, the acoustic tool may facilitate identification and evaluation of acoustic signals traveling through the geologic formation.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2015Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Chung Chang, Muralidhar Seshadri, Jean G. Saint Germain, Paul Junghans, Gary Kainer

Publication number: 20160356123Abstract: A method and apparatus including a fluid pressure actuator that includes a diaphragm that has a top and a bottom surface. In an exemplary embodiment, the fluid pressure actuator also has plunger coupled to the diaphragm and that extends from the bottom surface of the diaphragm in a first direction. The fluid pressure actuator also includes a bellow sensor that is coupled to the bottom surface of the diaphragm and that has an interior surface. In an exemplary embodiment, a height of the interior surface of the bellow sensor prevents the movement of the plunger in the first direction.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2014Publication date: December 8, 2016Inventors: Jean G. Saint Germain, Lesley Fessler, Adan H. Herrera, Sushovon Singha Roy, Wesley Ludwig

Patent number: 8794317Abstract: Methods and related systems are described for use for determining orientation of a measurement tool in a cased borehole. The measurement tool is deployed in a cased section of a borehole. The tool includes a volume containing a reference fluid having a first density, and a marker within the fluid having a different density. The position of the marker within volume containing the reference fluid is senses, and orientation information of the measurement tool is determined based at least in part on combining information relating to the position of the marker with prior recorded data representing orientation measurements made while the section of the borehole was not yet cased.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2012Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Chung Chang, Henri-Pierre Valero, Jean G. Patent number: 7617908Abstract: Elastodynamic waves are generated by a tool having a hammer rotatably connected with a housing by a first hinge and an actuator arm rotatably connected with the hammer by a second hinge. An axial force applied to the actuator arm by a drive shaft and spring is translated and amplified to a radial impact force by rotation of the hammer around the first hinge. The tool may also include a stabilizer arm connected to the actuator arm by a third hinge, and connected to the housing by a fourth hinge. The housing may be an acoustic wireline tool cylinder having an opening that permits the hammer mass to extend outside the housing when rotated in a first direction. The housing may also include a second opening that permits the hammer mass to extend outside the housing when rotated in a second direction, and a third opening that permits the hammer mass to extend outside the housing when rotated between the first and second openings.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2006Date of Patent: November 17, 2009Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Chung Chang, Richard Timothy Coates, Jean G. Patent number: 5873495Abstract: A multi-chambered tooth care dispensing device and more particularly, to a device that dispenses toothpaste, mouthwash and dental floss all from one convenient package. The toothpaste and the mouthwash are stored in side by side chambers and the dental floss is stored in the lower portion of the dispensing package and is led through a top opening that is provided with a floss cutting knife to allow the user to cut the floss to the desired length. The toothpaste and the mouthwash is delivered by hand action of a three way finger switch connected to a one-way set of gears and screw auger each connected to a piston. This forces the contents of each chamber up and out of the delivery outlet. The three-way hand/finger operated switch may be set to toothpaste in one direction and to mouthwash in the other direction with an off position in between.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1996Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Inventor: Jean G.
