  • Patent number: 8250954
Abstract: A band saw, a band saw assembly, and a method of spatially positioning a band saw blade are suggested. The band saw comprises a band saw blade against which a sawing material is adapted to be guided in a feed direction. A guide for the band saw blade has at least one magnet exerting a force on the band saw blade determining the spatial position thereof. The at least one magnet is adjustable in its force effect and the force is directed transversely to the feed direction. The guide, as viewed in the feed direction of the sawing material, has a front magnet and a rear magnet, the magnets facing a front area and a rear area, respectively, of the band saw blade. A method of spatially positioning a band saw blade is executed while a sawing material is guided against the band saw blade in a feed direction. A magnet force is exerted on the band saw blade. The magnet force, and thereby the position of the band saw blade is adjusted transversely to the feed direction.

  • Patent number: 6532850
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for dissecting logs in a sawing installation are disclosed. The installation having a reciprocally moving longitudinal conveyor for moving the logs reciprocally through a double band saw assembly utilizing band saw blades having sawing teeth both on a forward longitudinal edge and a rearward longitudinal edge thereof. As a consequence, the log is sawn both during the forward stroke and during the backward stroke of the reciprocally moving conveyor. Between subsequent strokes the band saw blades are displaced radially with respect to the conveying direction such that during each stroke the log first comes into contact with an outward band saw blade and then with an inward band saw blade, both relative to the log axis.

  • Publication number: 20020074063
Abstract: The invention is related to a method and an apparatus for dissecting a log into boards, the log being adapted to be displaced on a longitudinal conveyor in a longitudinal direction. For determining the board length, it is prior art to cut the log at its periphery by means of a cross-cut saw prior to dissecting the log into boards. As the cross-cut saw is stationary, the determination of the cutting depth is effected by displacing the log transversally. In the case of larger cutting depths, the log must be displaced back in the transversal direction after effecting the cross-cut so that a board of desired thickness may then subsequently be dissected from the log by means of a band saw. During that back displacement, it may happen that the log slips on the longitudinal conveyor so that the dimensional accuracy is lost.
