  • Patent number: 10474802
Abstract: A method of authorizing enrollment of an RFID device including a biometric sensor may include separately sending the RFID device and an authorization code associated with the RFID device to the user. The RFID device is configured such that, when the user presents the RFID device to an RFID terminal and inputs the authorization code to the terminal, the RFID device will enter an enrollment mode during which the user is authorized to enroll their biometric data.

  • Patent number: 10467830
Abstract: Disclosed embodiments provide a configurable electronic credential reader. The electronic credential reader defaults to a first communication mode utilizing a unidirectional communication interface. A bidirectional communication interface is monitored. If data is detected on the bidirectional communication interface, the electronic credential reader switches to a bidirectional communication mode. Circuitry within the electronic credential reader switches between the unidirectional communication interface and bidirectional communication interface such that the same external communication lines are used for both the unidirectional mode and the bidirectional mode.

  • Patent number: 10176415
Abstract: A method of harvesting power in a passive RFID device including a passive biometric authentication engine, including the steps of receiving a command from a powered RFID reader and supplying power extracted from an excitation field of the RFID reader to the biometric authentication engine whilst the RFID reader waits for a response to the command. Responsive to determining that a period that the RFID device has been waiting for a response exceeds a predetermined threshold, and that a process being performed by the biometric authentication engine has not been completed, a request for a wait time extension is sent to the RFID reader to cause it to continue supplying the excitation field.

  • Patent number: 9747738
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide an improved access control unit with an asymmetric transmission pattern. A shielded backplate reduces the interior transmission pattern. The secure side transmission pattern is much smaller than the unsecure side transmission pattern, such that a credential located within the secure side area of a building is not likely to trigger the access control unit, thus reducing the risk of an unauthorized access.
