  • Patent number: 5827391
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and a machine for marking an electric cable that comprises a conductive core, an insulating coating, and a varnish comprising an outer layer and an inner layer of contrasting colors, with the marking being performed by ablating the outer layer of said varnish with a laser, the outer layer of varnish being based on polytetrafluoroethylene and being 10 .mu.m to 20 .mu.m thick. According to the invention the machine comprises:a pulsed CO.sub.2 laser (2) whose power is adjusted to obtain an energy density lying in the range 8 J/cm.sup.2 to 15 J/cm.sup.2 at the outer layer of the cable varnish;drive means (9) for driving the cable (4) so as to cause it to run past the laser beam (5);guide means (13, 14, 15) for guiding the cable (4) in the vicinity of the point of impact of said beam (5) on the cable; andcomputerized control means (6).

  • Patent number: 5499448
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of tightly electrically connecting an electric cable (12) to an end member (10) such as an electric contact, it is proposed that the partly bared or stripped end of the cable be introduced into a stepped blind hole (26) formed in a rear connection part (10b) of the member (10). More specifically, the bared cable end is received in two cylindrical sections (26a,26b) of the hole (26), in which have been inserted beforehand a transparent sleeve (30), capping an inspection hole (32), and a metal interface ring (34). The unbared part of the cable is received in a cylindrical entrance section (26c) of the hole (26). Then, by wiredrawing, the partly truncated cone-shaped, outer surface of the part (10b) is deformed in order to give it a cylindrical shape.

  • Patent number: 5408743
Abstract: In order to connect an electric cable (12) having a light metal core (14) to a standardized end element such as a connector contact, the partly bare end of the cable is introduced into a blind hole (20) formed in a connecting part (10) made from an electrically conductive, cold deformable material. More specifically, the bare cable end is introduced into a truncated cone-shaped, intermediate portion (24) and into a bottom portion (22) of the hole (20), whilst the adjacent end of the cable sleeve (16) is introduced into a larger diameter, inlet portion (26) of the hole. In view of the fact that the part (10) has a truncated cone-shaped, outer surface around the blind hole, a radial compacting of the part has the effect of embedding the cable end in said part and mechanically joining the latter both to the core and to the sleeve of the cable.
