  • Patent number: 5353877
Abstract: A wireline assembly suspended from a cable is lowered down an oil well for temporary latching to a downhole assembly. Latching is provided by keys mounted in the wireline assembly to engage in a complementary recess formed in the downhole assembly and cooperating therewith via surfaces that are perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the device. Unlocking is obtained by pulling on the cable after an electrically controlled valve has been excited. The valve then communicates two chambers delimited by a control piston inside a cylinder formed in a tubular housing supporting the keys. The tension exerted on the cable is transmitted to the control piston by a rod which actuates an unlocking collar that causes the keys to be retracted.

  • Patent number: 5198770
Abstract: The apparatus includes a pad (20) pressed against the wall of a borehole (12), the pad comprising a plurality of detecting devices (42, 43, 44, 45) disposed in alignment along the longitudinal direction of the borehole. Each detecting device includes a housing (112, 113) having complementary ends fitted with electrical connectors. The end of one housing (112) is extended by first skirts (117, 118) suitable for interfitting between second skirts (121) of the complementary end of the housing (113) of an adjacent detecting device. An annular element (111) and screws (120, 122) fixed to complementary ends together thus constituting a rigid pad (20) which can be disassembled.

  • Patent number: 4575831
Abstract: The present invention relates to the acquisition of seismic signals at different levels in a borehole, in response to the generation of seismic waves by a source placed on the surface or in the vicinity of the surface. The acquisition is carried out by means of a sonde suspended in the borehole from a cable and equipped with an anchoring pad. At each acquisition level, the pad is anchored in the borehole wall to couple the sonde to the formation, and then the pad is released from the wall once the acquisition is over. The signals acquired are then sent to the surface by means of the cable. The force with which the pad is anchored in the wall is controlled by means of a feedback arrangement which includes a sensor arranged in the pad itself. During the sonde movements from one level to another, the pad is kept in contact with the wall.
