Abstract: The present invention concerns the use of organic copper complexes based on bisazomethines which, when added as light stabilizers to a dyebath for dyeing textiles, especially undyed polyamide, give rise to much less copper in the dyehouse effluent than substances hitherto used.

Abstract: A method has been found for brightening synthetic fibers and plastics. In this method, a granulate optical brightener is incorporated into the synthetic fibers or plastics, the granulated optical brightener being obtained via compacting of an optical brightener in powder form in a pressure compactor under a pressure of from 3 to 50 kNewton/cm of tube length and then comminuting the resultant compactate.

Abstract: Aqueous dispersions (U) containing: (A) a UV-light-absorbing textile treatment agent, (B) a dispersant system and (C) a carboxyl-containing crosslinked copolymer, and optionally (D) at least one formulation additive, are useful for the corresponding UV-active finishing of textile material, in particular textile material which can be dyed with disperse dyes or optically brightened with disperse brighteners, especially for treating cheeses with liquors comprising disperse dyes and UV absorbers or liquors comprising disperse brighteners, without fear of troublesome pressure build-up or dye or brightener deposits.

Abstract: The compounds of the s-triazine series of formula I ##STR1## wherein the symbols R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, X and n possess the significances given in claim 1, are eminently suitable, when applied to textile material, as UV-absorbers, as resist agents for anionic dyes, and as stain blockers.

Abstract: An aqueous dispersion comprising at least one of the UV absorbing compounds of the following formulae I, II or III as below defined: A--B (I); A--C--A (II); or B--A--B (III); wherein in Formula (I) and (II) ##STR1## and in Formula III, A is ##STR2## Y being a direct bond, a substitute C.sub.1-4 alkylene group, ##STR3## and R.sub.1 to R.sub.5 independently of each other are hydrogen; C.sub.4-4 alkyl, the alkyl optionally being substituted; aryl; heterocyclyl; or any two of R.sub.1 to R.sub.5 which are adjacent, together form part of a ring, with the proviso that no more than four of R.sub.1 to R.sub.5 are hydrogen.

Abstract: Compositions of water insoluble U.V. absorbers can be improved by the addition of a non-ionic surfactant which is an addition product of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide or both ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, and a mixture of fatty alcohols, fatty acids or fatty esters having 7-20 carbon atoms, preferably 14-18 carbon atoms or either tristyrylphenol or distyrylphenol. Such compositions have a good storage stability and excellent shear stability when the substrate to be dyed is a yarn which is in packed form.

Abstract: A method of improving the light fastness of textile materials using an aqueous dispersion of a compound of formula I, ##STR1## having a first (A) and a second (B) benzoxazine-4-one ring joined by a phenylene bridging member; a variable bond between the first benzoxazine-4-one ring (A) and the phenylene bridging member, said variable bond being meta- or para- to the bond between the second benzoxazine-4-one ring (B) and the bridging member; wherein each R.sub.1 is independently hydrogen, halogen, nitro, C.sub.1-2 alkyl, C.sub.1-4 alkoxy, carboxy, sulfonic acid, C.sub.1-3 alkylcarbonyl, benzoyl or C.sub.1-4 alkoxycarbonyl and; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, methyl, C.sub.1-2 alkoxy, phenyl, hydroxy, nitro, carboxy or sulfonic acid.
