  • Patent number: 9353043
Abstract: In a process for preparing (meth)acrylic esters (E) of polyalkoxy-containing alcohols which comprises reacting polyalkoxy-containing alcohols (P) of formula (I) where R1 is hydrogen, a hydroxyl group or a straight-chain or branched, saturated or unsaturated alcohol of 1 to 30 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are each independently H or methyl, and m and n are each independently an integer between 0 and 100, with the proviso that m and n cannot both be 0, with a (meth)acrylic anhydride (A) in the presence of at least one basic catalyst (K) having a pKB value of not more than 7.0 and of at least one sterically hindered polymerization inhibitor, the reaction mixture is quenched with a C1-C6 alkanol after the reaction has ended.

  • Patent number: 8772532
Abstract: Provided are processes for the production of (meth)acrylic esters of polyols, in which for 80 mol % or more of the esters, all of the OH groups of the polyols are esterified. Certain processes relate to reaction of polyols with acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid in the presence of acidic esterification catalysts and in the presence of polymerization inhibitors, operating with reaction mixtures which are liquid at reaction temperature and are free from nonreacting solvents and/or azeotropic entrainers, the resultant water of condensation being stripped from the gas phase of the reaction space, and the (meth)acrylic acid is metered in three or more portions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 2, 2012
Date of Patent: July 8, 2014
    Assignee: Cognis IP Management GmbH
    Inventors: Juergen Baro, Jean-Marc Ballin
  • Patent number: 8524808
Abstract: The invention is a radiation curable coating composition containing epoxyacrylate formed by ring opening reaction between (meth)acrylic acid and a self-dispersing epoxy resin in an aqueous system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 12, 2005
Date of Patent: September 3, 2013

  • Publication number: 20120059081
Abstract: The invention relates to resins comprising acrylate groups that are liquid at 25° C., obtained in that polycarboxylic acids (a) comprising at least 2 carboxyl groups and at least 2 C atoms per molecule are converted in a first stage with polyamines (b) comprising at least 2 amino groups and at least 2 C atoms per molecule, such that an intermediate compound (z) results, said compound being terminated by carboxyl groups, and said compound (z) being functionalized in a second stage, such that the free carboxyl groups thereof are provided with one or more (meth)acrylate groups in one or more stages, said resins being suitable as radiation-curing compounds for producing coatings.
