  • Patent number: 10749746
Abstract: In one embodiment, a supervisory device in a network assigns different access points in the network to different access point groupings. Each of the different access point groupings uses a different network path to communicate with a given endpoint in the network. The supervisory device selects at least one of the access points in each of the different access point groupings for mapping to a virtual access point (VAP) for a node in the network as part of a VAP mapping. The supervisory device instructs the selected access points to form a VAP for the node. The node treats the access points in the VAP mapping as a single access point for purposes of communicating with the network.

  • Patent number: 8355315
Abstract: In one embodiment, a primary tail-end node (PTE) of a point-to-multipoint (P2MP) tunnel selects a backup tail-end node (BTE) from one or more BTEs that are configured to forward traffic to a same multicast network as the PTE. The PTE then determines a branching node of the P2MP tunnel to reach the PTE and the selected BTE, and notifies the branching node of the selected BTE. In response, the branching node establishes a backup tunnel to the selected BTE, and redirects P2MP traffic onto the backup tunnel to the selected BTE in response to a detected failure of the PTE.

  • Patent number: 7747777
Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises logic for optimizing network resources usage. The logic is operable to store IGP information, where the IGP information includes a set of attribute values associated with each of a set of content servers. When the logic receives a request for content from a remote peer, the logic determines one or more content servers that can provide the requested content. The logic then retrieves, from the IGP information, a plurality of attribute values associated with a non-looping path from each of the one or more content servers. For each of the one or more content servers, the retrieved attribute values include: one or more capacity values indicating capacities of one or more communication links on the non-looping path from that content server; and one or more utilization values indicating utilizations of the one or more communication links on the non-looping path from that content server.
