  • Patent number: 5925337
Abstract: This composition, containing in the conventional manner at least one wax, at least one thickening agent and at least one volatile organic solvent and optionally other conventional ingredients (fillers, pigments, vitamins, amino acids, etc.) is characterized in that it contains an aqueous solution of at least one water-soluble film forming polymer (keratin, chitin, chitosan or cellulose derivatives, acrylic polymers, polyvinyl pyrrolidones and vinylic copolymers, natural polymers, ethylene polymers and oxy-ethylenated silicones, etc.). The originality of this mascara consists in obtaining an increase in the water resistance of the product by introducing an aqueous solution of water-soluble substances into an anhydrous formula. The system does not contain an emulsifying agent, but nevertheless allows for a stable composition containing approximately 10% of water in a completely hydrophobic medium.

  • Patent number: 5223559
Abstract: A cosmetic composition contains a dispersion, in a fatty binder, of a particulate filler composed of solid particles of at least one material compatible with application to the skin. The particulate filler contains at least 50 wt. %, or at least 75 vol. % relative to the total particulate filler, of spherical or spheroidal particles 0.5 to 50 .mu. in size. The particulate filler has an oil uptake such that its concentration by volume C*, when the volume of binder is equal to that of the oil uptake (measured on the nonvolatile fraction of the binder), is between 3 and 90%. The concentration by volume of the particulate filler in the dispersion, measured on the nonvolatile fraction of the binder, namely without taking into account any volatile oils that may be present in the fatty binder, is at least equal to C* and preferably greater than C*. This composition allows skin defects (color differences and micro reliefs) to be blurred while leaving a translucent layer on said skin.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5154916
Abstract: The wax-based mascaras containing keratin hydrolysates having a molecular weight greater than 50,000 have improved properties for coating eyelashes, of stability and eyelash lengthening.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 27, 1990
Date of Patent: October 13, 1992
    Assignee: L'Oreal
Inventors: Jean-Pierre Arraudeau, Jeanne Patraud, Didier Gagnebien
  • Patent number: 5053220
Abstract: These wax-based mascara compositions have cosmetic properties which are improved by the presence, in combination with the waxes, of keratin sulphonic derivatives of formula ##STR1## in which formula K denotes the keratin residue, and M.sup.+ denotes H.sup.+, a cation derived from an alkali metal or magnesium, or N.sup.+ (R).sub.4, the radicals R being identical or different and each denoting H or an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radical containing at most 4 carbon atoms, the unit A denoting from 3 to 15% by weight of the keratin derivative and being the only modified unit in the protein chain of the keratin. The derivatives of formula (I) act both as a cohesion agent and a thickener, enabling a sheathing to be produced on the eyelashes with immediate adhesion and with a flexible film-forming effect.
