  • Patent number: 6505580
Abstract: The invention relates to a valve-type device including a housing having a fluid access (7) which is shut off by a shutter (9) secured to an actuator (10) as a function of the temperature of the fluid passing through the device. The device also includes an expanding-material safety thermostatic element (22) located in the stream of fluid passing through the housing. The element 22 actuates the shutter (9) when, as a result of defective operation of the actuator (10) or of its control equipment, the shutter has not been moved by the actuator. The actuator also consists of an expanding-material thermostatic element containing a heating means (13) connected to control equipment.

  • Patent number: 6343746
Abstract: A housing has a chamber comprising fluid accesses, at least one of which can be plugged by a plug; a reversible motor equipped with a rotary shaft is connected to the plug by a coupling involving a screw-nut system to move it in translation towards plugging or uncovering the pluggable access according to the temperature of a stream of fluid travelling through the device; and a thermostatic element located in the same stream of fluid actuates the plug if the motor or its controls fail. In order to prevent the plug from then reverting to its initial position when the element retracts, the coupling is inelastic and the screw-nut system is reversible so that when the plug is actuated by the thermostatic element, the motor is made to rotate.

  • Patent number: 5427062
Abstract: A cooling circuit comprises a regulating valve, the moving shutoff means of which is actuated by an electric motor the feed current of which is subjected to the action of an electronic control system sensitive to various operating parameters of the internal combustion engine. A safety thermostatic wax capsule is located in a chamber of the valve so as to act on the moving shutoff means so that hot cooling liquid coming from the internal combustion engine is conveyed at least for the most part, towards a radiator only in the case where the temperature of the cooling liquid in the chamber exceeds by a predetermined amount, the temperature for which the electronic system is set.

  • Patent number: 5188287
Abstract: A thermostat is actuated by a wax capsule adapted to operate on a main valve disposed in a fluid circuit immediately the temperature of the wax capsule exceeds a predetermined threshold. It comprises arrangements made at least in part from a single-acting memory alloy adapted to contribute to the operation of the thermostat only when their temperature is less than the transformation temperature of the alloy and to condition the flow of the fluid in the thermostat in the same direction as if the wax capsule had operated normally if the transformation temperature of the memory metal is exceeded.
