  • Patent number: 5634939
Abstract: A low energy emission therapy system which includes an emitter of low energy electromagnetic emissions and a probe for applying the emissions to a patient under treatment. The emitter emits a high frequency electromagnetic emission in the form of a carrier signal modulated by a plurality of modulation signals. The invention also includes an impedance transformer located intermediate the emitter and the probe in order to match the impedance of the patient with that of the output of the emitter. Particular modulation signal frequencies and application times and sequences are provided for the treatment of insomnia, and for the treatment of general anxiety disorder which may include panic attacks.

  • Patent number: 4501579
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for producing a cigarette filter unit, in which filter elements are disposed on a porous or perforated covering strip and at least partially wrapped thereby and adhesively joined. The adhesive substance is applied to the covering strip along coating tracks which are at least approximately equidistant from each other and extended at an angle to the longitudinal orientation of the covering strip. The filter strand formed in this manner is subdivided by a cutting device.

  • Patent number: 4436517
Abstract: In apparatus for making transverse-flow cigarette filters, a rod of cellulose acetate impregnated with a plasticizing agent and having a porous covering is cut into sections each having a length of several filters. From the cutting station, the rod sections are fed longitudinally into longitudinal grooves in the periphery of a first revolving drum. The rod sections are then transferred into longitudinal grooves in the periphery of a second revolving drum having in such grooves projections for forming indentations in one side of the rod sections. While carried by the second revolving drum, the rod sections are engaged by a third revolving drum having on its periphery projections for forming longitudinally offset indentations in the opposite side of the rod sections. In another embodiment of the apparatus, the rod sections are received in transverse grooves in a conveyor belt, and are transferred in groups between opposed punches which form indentations in opposite sides of the rod sections.

  • Patent number: 4412829
Abstract: For the purpose of producing a cigarette filter unit provided with chambers which are filled with a pourable filter material a filter rope provided with chambers having filling openings which terminate to the outside is conveyed past a filler member provided with a filler opening lying sealingly against the latter. In order to obtain satisfactorily filled chambers even at very high advance speeds of the filter rope, the interior of the first chamber of the filler member which interior is connected to the filler opening is maintained during the filling process at an internal pressure which lies above that of the surrounding atmosphere. When then the chambers to be filled come into connection with the filler opening of the filler member an air stream is effected which, in consequence of the pressure difference thus produced, is directed out of the filler member into the chambers to be filled and which conveys filter material out of the filler member into the chambers to be filled of the filter rope.

  • Patent number: 4303080
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for producing a filter cigarette with a filter unit which is provided with a porous or perforated covering strip. A porous or perforated connecting strip joins the tobacco part to the filter unit. The adhesive for connecting the covering strip to the outside of the filter element on the one hand and the adhesive for connecting the connecting strip to the outsides of the filter unit and of the tobacco part on the other hand is applied on those surfaces on the one hand of the covering strip and on the other hand of the connecting strip which are inwardly oriented on the filter cigarette.

  • Patent number: 4259130
Abstract: A continuous strand consisting of loose filamentary and/or fibrous material is brought into engagement with a conveying and forming belt in at least approximately tension-free condition by means of at least one continuously moving conveying element which extends into the strand-gripping zone of the conveying and forming belt and which engages the interior of the strand. Next the strand is enveloped and brought to the desired cross-section by said belt. After achieving the desired cross-sectional form of the strand, the strand material is interfixed. The thus formed form-stable rod is then divided into rod-shaped portions by a cutting-device.

  • Patent number: 4223597
Abstract: In a method of producing a cigarette filter, the filter material being visible through a filter chamber, the steps include spacing a plurality of filter elements successively apart at uniform separating distances, joining the filter elements to a continuous covering strip along a longitudinal portion thereof, so as to cover the filter elements continuously to form a filter cord having a plurality of the chambers, and so that lateral edges of the covering strip define a predetermined constant width of a slit extending over the entire length of the filter cord, and a plurality of openings extending over the separating distances, respectively, in the filter cord, sliding a filling device adapted to hold granular filter material over the openings in intimate contact with smooth surface portions of the covering strip, filling the chambers with the granular filling material, sealing the chambers upon completion of the filling step by a sealing strip, and cutting the filter cord into a plurality of individual sectio

  • Patent number: 4185645
Abstract: Cigarette filter units are made in a long strip with alternate portions of fibrous and pourable filter material. The fibrous portions are first attached at spaced intervals to a sheathing strip which is wrapped practically right around them to form a cylinder with regular empty spaces between the fibrous portions and openings into the spaces. In a special unit, air is extracted from these spaces so that when the spaces enter a chamber containing pourable filter material, they suck the material in to fully fill the spaces. Excess filter material is brushed off the filter unit, and a sealing strip is stuck over the openings.

  • Patent number: 4164438
Abstract: A method of making a filtering member of cellulose acetate for cigarette filters of the transverse flow type in which a rod formed by a bunch of cellulose acetate fibres coated with plasticizing agent and surrounded by a skin or a paper cover is first cut transversely into shorter lengths at a cutting station. Then with each length in a heated state, a plurality of similar, spaced, co-linear grooves are impressed into the length along each of two diametrically opposed sides thereof as the length is carried by a conveyor arrangement from the cutting station to a processing station. The conveyor arrangement can comprise a driven train of fluted transfer drums receiving the lengths in the flutes certain of which have teeth extending along the troughs of those flutes to impress the grooves in the lengths, or can comprise a conveyor belt to receive the lengths in which the grooves are impressed by punches above and below the upper run of the belt.

  • Patent number: 4003774
Abstract: A tow of filamentary dielectric material, wrapped in a flexible conveyor belt of low permittivity material such as PTFE, is passed through a stationary tube also of low permittivity material. This tube is disposed in resonating cavities wherein a high frequency electric field of 3.10.sup.8 to 3.10.sup.11 Hz heats the tow. After cooling, the tow forms a tube which may be cut to form cigarette filters.

  • Patent number: 4001579
Abstract: Faults in a composite filter rod being supplied to a sectioning device are detected optically by traversing the rod with a beam of light supplied along a first fiber bundle and taken up and delivered to photo-detector by a second fiber bundle. The ends of the cylindrical fiber bundles are held in the configuration of narrow homothetic rectangles transverse to the direction of feed of the rod, the width of the first bundle being approximately double that of the second bundle. The photo-detector controls elimination of faulty tips after sectioning; additional pairs of fiber bundles can be used to control synchronization of cutting with feed of the rod, and the correct succession of filter elements in the rod.
