  • Patent number: 4109623
Abstract: A system for regulating the injection of auxiliary air into the intake of internal combustion engines includes a pressure-regulating stage feeding an intermediate compartment with an intermediate pressure proportional to that in the engine's intake manifold, and an opening-regulating stage through which air flows from the intermediate compartment toward the intake chamber communicating with the manifold. The opening-regulating stage includes a metering valve activated by a membrane which is controlled by a control pressure obtained by joining a compartment on one side of the membrane to intake pressure through a conduit having a metering orifice or choke thereon and also joining the compartment to an intermediate compartment through an electrically-activated valve the opening of which is controlled by a current at the frequency of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4062337
Abstract: An electro-pneumatic device for regulating the supply of air to an internal combustion engine having a carburettor is arranged to supply the air to the engine into a manifold downstream of the carburettor and the air supply is controlled to adjust the richness of the main stream of air and fuel entering the engine to control the richness of the combustible mixture. The device includes a pneumatic regulator valve having two stages in series with each other and the opening and closing of this valve is controlled, to adjust the rate of air supply, by a command pressure produced by connecting the valve alternately to a source of the mixture delivery pressure from the carburettor and a source of higher pressure. This alternate connection is effected by an electrically-operated valve actuated by a signal of square wave form, the frequency of which is a function of engine speed and of a signal delivered by a sensor which senses the composition of the exhaust gases from the engine.

  • Patent number: 4048479
Abstract: In a computer for calculating the optimum mixture of combustion agent and fuel for an internal combustion engine, of the type comprising a monostable univibrator operating in synchronism with the rotational velocity of the engine and generating electric pulses of a width subordinate to the value of the voltage measured by a probe for making the chemical analysis of the gases in the exhaust manifold, the thus measured voltage being processed in a regulator provided with an intermediate integrator, said electric pulses being utilized for determining the opening time of a solenoid valve controlling the output of a fluid, whether combustion agent or fuel, of which the metering is measured by said probe, provision is made of a bistable univibrator coupled at one end to the output of a first comparator having one input connected to said chemical analysis probe via an integration type regulating circuit, said univibrator being connected at its other input to a pulse generator opening in synchronism with the rotation

  • Patent number: 3989015
Abstract: A prechamber in the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine is fed with a rich air-fuel mixture by means of a valve comprising a flexible blade element which normally rests on a flat seat. The actuator control for opening of the blade element is effected on the one hand by natural aspiration of the cylinder and on the other hand by a cam element carried by a cam shaft and directly acting on the flexible blade element.

  • Patent number: 3982505
Abstract: A method for controlling the response time of an electromechanical device having an actuating solenoid comprising: applying three reference voltages from three reference voltage sources in a predetermined order to a voltage and current amplifier which drives the solenoid, generating from the three reference voltages three corresponding currents through the solenoid, the three currents being a premagnetization current, a maximum activation current of the solenoid and a deactivation current of the solenoid.

  • Patent number: 3963987
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the rotational speed of an engine, using electrical pulses produced with revolving parts of the engine, including the use of a number of series of transducers or pickups producing numbers of asynchronous pulses, different for each series during each revolution of the engine, the transducers corresponding to as many series of detection elements comprising teeth and/or bosses spaced on the periphery of corresponding revolving parts of the engine, such that if n is the number of detection elements of a largest series giving the highest pulse frequency for a corresponding transducer due to engine revolution, and q is the total number of transducers associated with another series of detection elements, then the angular location of said another series of detection elements is obtained to the nearest 360.degree./qn.

  • Patent number: 3949713
Abstract: An electronic fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine wherein the amount of fuel injected is metered according to variations in the injection pressure. Mechanical injectors having a preset opening pressure are fed from a distribution chamber which, in turn, is fed by a fuel circuit pressurized by by an electronically controlled fuel supply flow. The fuel supply flow is the difference between the flow through an inlet injector receiving fuel under pressure and that through an outlet injector regulating the return flow of fuel to the reservoir, these injectors being of the continuous flow electromagnetic type. The fuel supply is frequency controlled by a computer and regulated by a servo loop to assure a constant richness. The preferred embodiment is particularly adaptable to a low priced electronic fuel injection system using mechanical devices whose precision is relatively unimportant.
