  • Publication number: 20090131898
Abstract: A liquid absorbent open-cell polymeric foam material having properties which makes it suitable for use as an absorbent structure in absorbent articles such as diapers, pant diapers, sanitary napkins, incontinence guards, wound dressings, bed protections etc., at which the foam material has an absorption rate at wetting of at least 0.4 ml/s for a round sample having the diameter 50 mm, a liquid distribution capacity at an inclination of 30° of at least 15 g/g and a liquid storage capacity of at least 9% measured through CRC (centrifuge retention capacity), at which the test liquid in all cases is synthetic urine. There is further referred to an absorbent structure containing the foam material.

  • Patent number: 6673981
Abstract: An absorbent porous structure for use in a diaper, a pant diaper, an incontinence guard, a sanitary napkin or the like, with a liquid acquisition portion and a liquid storage portion which are an integrated unit. The liquid acquisition portion comprises a compressed polymeric open-cell foam which expands upon wetting, and the liquid storage portion comprises a polymeric open-cell foam which may be the same or different from the foam in the liquid acquisition portion. The liquid storage portion also contains a superabsorbent material, with the amount of superabsorbent material being lower in the part of the liquid storage portion that is located closest to the liquid acquisition portion than in the part of the liquid storage portion that is located furthest from the liquid acquisition portion. Other embodiments include a method for producing the absorbent structure and an absorbent article containing such an absorbent structure.

  • Patent number: 6657101
Abstract: The invention refers to an absorbent structure in an absorbent article such as a diaper, a pant diaper, an incontinence guard, a sanitary napkin etc., the absorbent structure comprises an open-cell foam structure, the pore walls of said foam structure comprising a liquid-storing material having the capacity to store more than 7% synthetic urine defined according to the CRC method. The absorbent structure is characterized by that the pores of the foam structure contains hydrophilic fibers, at which at least the main part of the hydrophilic fibers are firmly anchored in the pore walls of the foam structure, and that the fiber amount is at least 10% by weight of the total weight of the open-cell foam in dry condition. The invention also refers to an absorbent article containing such an absorbent structure.

  • Patent number: 6494989
Abstract: Absorbent wetlaid paper containing at least 1% by weight, calculated on the dry weight of the paper, of an absorbent polymeric material having a thermo-reversible liquid uptake capacity, which has a cloud point, Cp, in water within the temperature interval 30-60° C., preferably 35-55° C., at which the polymer has a substantially higher liquid uptake capacity at temperatures below said cloud point as compared to at temperatures above the cloud point. The thermo-reversible polymer will then be inactive during the papermaking process and be activated to its swelling and absorbent form when it is brought into contact with a liquid, the temperature of which is below the cloud point, Cp, of the polymer.

  • Patent number: 6465710
Abstract: The invention pertains to an absorbent structure (3) in an absorbent article such as a diaper (100), an incontinence protector, a sanitary napkin or the like, which structure exhibits two end portions (8, 9) and a crotch portion (6) located therebetween, wherein the absorbent structure (3) comprises superabsorbent material having a thermo-reversible liquid absorption capacity. The superabsorbent material having a thermo-reversible liquid absorption capacity is located in one or several delimited regions in the absorbent structure (3).

  • Patent number: 6020536
Abstract: The present invention relates to an absorbent body which is intended to form the absorbent element in an absorbent article, such as a diaper, an incontinence guard or a sanitary napkin, and includes a first absorbent layer which, in use, is intended to face towards the wearer, and a second absorbent layer which is intended, in use, to face away from the wearer. According to the invention, the absorbent body includes at least two mutually different cellulose fluffs, wherein the major part of the fibre structure of the first absorbent layer is comprised of a first type of cellulose fluff having low liquid-spreading ability and a critical bulk which exceeds 8 cm.sup.3 /g at 2.5 kPa, while the major part of the fibre structure of the second absorbent layer is comprised of a different type of cellulose fluff having a critical bulk beneath 8 cm.sup.3 /g at 2.5 kPa and a higher liquid-spreading ability than the cellulose fluff in the first absorbent layer.
