  • Patent number: 6630156
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing biodegradable microspheres containing physiologically active agents. Particularly, the present invention relates to the process comprised the following steps (1) to prepare a polymer solution containing physiologically active agents wherein a biodegradable polymer is dissolved in a water-soluble organic solvent and physiologically active agents are dissolved or suspended to it; (2) to form a O/O type emulsion by emulsifying the polymer solution into a water soluble alcohol which contains an emulsion stabilizer; and (3) to extract the organic solventS and alcohol by adding the emulsion into a neutral or an alkaline aqueous solution to educe the microspheres. The process of the present invention is effective for producing the microspheres having a uniform size which arm congenital to a living body and has an excellent inclusion efficiency. So, the microspheres prepared by the process of the present invention are used for a drug delivery system.

  • Patent number: 6277391
Abstract: This invention relates to a composition and method for treating diseases and disorders of the prostate such as prostatitis, benign prostatic hypertrophy, and prostate carcinoma. The prostate is treated by intraprostatic injection of a biodegradable sustained release formulation. By injecting the treatment substance directly into the prostate, improved treatment results are obtained with a much lower treatment substance dosage. Additionally, by incorporating the treatment substance into a biodegradable sustained release formulation, the need for frequent repetition of injections is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6193994
Abstract: This invention relates to locally administrable, biodegradable and sustained-release pharmaceutical composition for periodontitis and process for preparation thereof, which can show continuous drug effect for a long time by controlling the release time and by making the drug remain in the periodontal pocket for a prolonged time. The composition is prepared by i) making a microsphere containing the physiologically active substance, ii) making the mixture of the microspheres and water-soluble polymer such as polysaccharides iii) making the mixture into the form of film or strip or/and iv) coating the film or strip with a cation aqueous solution such as calcium and barium. The present pharmaceutical composition can be easily administered using forceps, has minimized side effects and maximizes the effect by releasing the active substance at the minimum dose, and make the patients feel comfortable.
