  • Publication number: 20180098856
Abstract: A tibial augment for use with a knee joint prosthesis, composed of annular members of different stock sizes, each size being configured to fit within a cavity formed in a human tibia. The augment may include a stepped distal surface. A provisional (temporary) tibial augment used to ensure a proper fit for the permanent augment is also provided. The provisional may include grooves configured to cooperate with a set of ribs on a tong-like holder used for removing the provisional from the cavity. A pusher for use implanting the tibial augment is also provided. In addition, a system for creating a cavity in a human tibia is also described. The system preferably includes a guide with a slot therein and a set of osteotomes that are inserted to within different portions of the slot. Methods for using the tools and/or implanting the prosthetic devices discussed above are also described.

  • Patent number: 9925050
Abstract: An orthopaedic knee prosthesis includes a tibial bearing component with surface features which operate to protect adjacent soft tissues of the natural knee throughout a wide range of flexion. More particularly, the tibial bearing component provides an anterior relief space disposed between the dished lateral and medial articular compartments, in which the relief space is convex as viewed from a sagittal perspective across the medial/lateral extent of the relief space.

  • Publication number: 20180021143
Abstract: An orthopaedic tibial prosthesis includes a tibial baseplate sized and shaped to cover substantially all of a resected proximal tibial surface, and a tibial bearing component sized to leave a posteromedial portion of the tibial baseplate exposed when the tibial bearing component is mounted to the baseplate. The exposed posteromedial portion of the tibial baseplate includes a chamfered profile which cooperates with a correspondingly chamfered profile at a posteromedial edge of the tibial bearing component to create a substantially continuous chamfer extending from the resected tibial surface to the medial articular surface of the tibial bearing component. Advantageously, this chamfer leaves an absence of material (i.e., a relief or void) at the posteromedial edge of the tibial prosthesis, thereby enabling deep flexion of the prosthesis without impingement between the tibial prosthesis and adjacent anatomic tissues or prosthetic structures.

  • Patent number: 9775724
Abstract: A prosthetic inserter includes an inserter head having at least first and second bosses, at least one of the bosses movable from a first position to a second position, that couple the inserter to a femoral provisional component via a pair of corresponding apertures, such as drill holes, within the articulating surfaces of a selected one of a series of femoral provisional components. Each provisional component of the series is capable of having different aperture distances measured between a respective pair of apertures. The bosses of the inserter are biased into an engagement position in which the inserter can be secured to a femoral provisional component to eliminate the need for an external engagement force to be supplied to the inserter.

  • Patent number: 9713532
Abstract: A femoral augment for use with a knee joint prosthesis, where the femoral augment includes a main body portion, an aperture formed within the main body portion and extending in a generally distal/proximal direction, and a pair of legs extending outwardly from said main body portion in a generally posterior direction. In the preferred embodiment, the aperture is configured to receive a stem extension implant, and to allow it to pass through. Additionally, the legs of the femoral augment are preferably configured to be seated proximal of a proximal side of a pair of condylar portions of a femoral component of a knee joint prosthesis. The present invention is intended for situations in which the distal portion of the femur is defective, and it provides a method and devices that allow for preservation of healthy peripheral bone, while still providing the necessary augmentation to the distal portion of fee femur.

  • Publication number: 20170079801
Abstract: According to one example, a tibial bearing component for articulation with a medial condyle and a lateral condyle of a femoral component in a knee replacement procedure is disclosed. The tibial bearing component can include a distal surface and an articular surface opposing the distal surface. The articular surface can include a medial compartment and a lateral compartment configured for articulation with the medial condyle and the lateral condyle of the femoral component, respectively. The lateral compartment can have a lateral articular track with a lateral anterior-posterior extent. The lateral articular track can comprise a plurality of distal-most points along a proximal surface of the lateral compartment that are contacted by the lateral condyle during rollback of the femoral component. The medial compartment can differ in configuration from the lateral compartment and can have an anterior lip height of between about 9 mm and about 13 mm.

  • Patent number: 9408720
Abstract: An orthopedic implant inserter is provided with removable jaws. The jaws are connected to handles of the inserter by retainers. Each retainer includes a shaft and a latch. The shaft is configured to be received within mounting bores of a jaw and the associated handle. The latch is connected to the shaft and movable between a release configuration and a retaining configuration. In the release configuration, the shaft is removable from the mounting bores and the jaw is thereby removable from the associated handle. In the retaining configuration, the shaft is secured within the mounting bores and the jaw is thereby secured to the associated handle.
