Publication number: 20200215190Abstract: A liquid crystal nanoparticle (LCNP)-based system allows for the encapsulation and targeted delivery of Zinc (II) phthalocyanine (ZnPC) to the plasma membrane bilayer of living cells for photodynamic therapy (PDT). The formulation comprises LCNPs that are loaded in their hydrophobic core with perylene (PY) and ZnPC. In embodiments, the LCNP surface is functionalized with Poly(ethylene glycol)-cholesterol conjugates (PEG-Chol) and/or another material enabling targeting the particle to the cellular membrane. This can improve cell killing via reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation as it allows for the localized ROS-mediated peroxidation of lipids in the membrane bilayer.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2020Publication date: July 9, 2020Inventors: Okhil Nag, Jawad Naciri, Jeff Erickson, James B. Publication number: 20170167654Abstract: A shield for a pipe carrying fluid includes a pipe-engaging portion and a shielding portion. The pipe-engaging portion is configured for holding the shield in place with respect to the pipe. The shielding portion is fixed to the pipe-engaging portion and configured for blocking at least one side of the pipe and protecting the pipe against external disturbance applied in a specific direction. The pipe-engaging portion may be configured for engaging and holding in place the pipe. The pipe-engaging portion is configured for engaging and holding in place the pipe. Alternatively, the pipe-engaging portion is configured for being disposed in a vicinity of the pipe and holding the shield portion in place with respect to the pipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 21, 2017Publication date: June 15, 2017Inventor: Jeff Erickson

Patent number: 8965710Abstract: An apparatus having within or as part of a housing; a sample port; a microarray port; a lysis module; a purification module for containing a solid phase for binding of oligonucleotides; a thermocycling module for containing a polymerase chain reaction; a fragmentation module; and a microarray module for holding a microarray and a liquid in contact with the microarray. The apparatus is configured to be coupled to a device for: pumping a liquid through, in order, the lysis, purification, thermocycling, fragmentation, and microarray modules; sonicating any contents of the lysis module; thermocycling the thermocycling module to perform the polymerase chain reaction; heating the fragmentation module to fragment any oligonucleotides contained therein; circulating a fluid over the surface of the microarray; and performing one or more washing or staining steps on the microarray.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2006Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Frances S Ligler, David A Stenger, Jeff Erickson, Marie Archer

Publication number: 20070266761Abstract: This invention consists of a tool and a bending plate that provides a means of straightening woodcutting saw bars otherwise known as saw bars. The saw bars are used in the process of harvesting timber with machinery. The machinery would include Feller Bunchers or any Wood Processing Machine that uses a hydraulic, electric or gas driven wood cutting chain with a steel bar. The Erickson Super Straightener is a tool that consists of 3 main functional parts. There is a rotating head plate with an attached handle and the separate bending plate. In order to use the tool the bending plate must be secured by welding or bolting it to an adequate flat working surface. The best place to secure the bending plate would be on the machine it is intended to be used for. The tool is then used by slipping the ears of the bent saw bar through the stationary bending plate. The bar is then held securely in place by the bending plate.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 9, 2006Publication date: November 22, 2007Inventors: Jeff Erickson, Mark dePape
