  • Patent number: 5711223
Abstract: A magnetic plate cylinder for a printing press includes an outer cylinder member having circumferentially and axially spaced plugs of magnetic material or axially spaced apart rings of magnetic material for directing a magnetic field in such a way as to hold a magnetic printing plate on the outer surface of the outer cylinder member. An inner cylinder member includes circumferentially and axially spaced permanent magnet members supported on a cylinder of nonmagnetic material or stacked circular ring magnets interposed between rings of magnetic or nonmagnetic material for generating a magnetic field passing through the plugs or rings of magnetic material on the outer cylinder member. The inner cylinder member is disposed to form a radial air gap between the outer cylinder member and an outer surface of the inner cylinder member.

  • Patent number: 4800287
Abstract: Method and apparatus for determining the area of a contrasting image on a transfer sheet are disclosed. The contrasting image is scanned incrementally by a flat bed digital scanner having a single strip of light response cells. As the transfer sheet is advanced incrementally across the rear field of the scanner, the output of the sensor strip is read. Data words (pixels) corresponding to the logic "1" or logic "0" condition of each cell are stored in unique memory locations of random access memory. The number of black information pixels stored in RAM memory are counted. The number of black information pixels divided by the known sensor cell density yields the area of the contrasting image.

  • Patent number: 4701952
Abstract: A confined system of sound transmission from a frequency attenuation compensated source through plastic pneumatic tubes in series with liquid tubes of considerable length, transmitting audio to and through pneumatic headphones to the ear canals of the user. It is an audio system suitable for use in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance scanning environments and for use in CAT scan environments. The system includes a stereo program source playing into a stereo frequency compensation amplifier driving right and left loudspeaker pneumatic drivers feeding audio to and through long liquid tubes in series with pneumatic tubes extended to left and right earphones of plastic headphones worn by a patient in a scan room environment.

  • Patent number: 4651099
Abstract: A scan room is disclosed in which a magnetic resonance (MR) imager can be located that will reduce to an acceptable level outside the room the strength of the fringe magnetic fields produced by the imager and that will shield the imager from magnetic, radio frequency electromagnetic, and electric fields outside the room, while allowing the magnet of the imager to be shimmed to produce a sufficient homogeneous field to obtain the desired images. The scan room is rectangular although it could be cylindrical or spherical. Its walls, floor, and ceiling are made of a plurality of steel plate welded together. The thickness of the walls can vary as the distance from the magnet and the permeability of the steel plates varies. A steel door allows patients and medical personnel to enter and leave the room.

  • Patent number: 4628728
Abstract: A method for determining the volumetric capacity of a fluid metering roller is disclosed. A measured amount of ink is deposited onto the transfer surface of the roller and is then dispersed into the underlying cells. A sheet of low-absorbancy transfer material is spread over the roller and the ink deposit lying in the interface between the roller transfer surface and the impression sheet is spread by the application of a roller or scraper across the back side of the transfer paper. The engraved cells are filled by the excess ink as it spreads across the cell transfer surface. The area of the transfer paper impression is measured by overlaying the impression area with a transparent sheet of graph paper having grid lines of known spacing.
