  • Publication number: 20050222558
Abstract: The present invention provides devices and methods for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. In one embodiment method for treatment of atrial fibrillation is provided that includes positioning a sheath catheter having a deflectable distal end segment in the left atrium of a heart, orienting said sheath catheter such that an ablation instrument can be delivered through the sheath catheter to a position proximal to a first pulmonary vein, activating the ablation instrument to form a circumferential lesion around the first pulmonary vein, repositioning the sheath catheter by deflecting the distal end segment to another orientation, and activating the ablation instrument to form a circumferential lesion around at least one additional pulmonary vein.

  • Publication number: 20050169550
Abstract: A video processing system with reconfigurable instructions includes a processor, a first register file in the processor, an extension adapter, programmable logic, a second register file coupled to the programmable logic, and a load/store module. The processor executes a video application that contains an instruction extension not native to the instruction set of the processor. The extension adapter detects the instruction extension in the video application. The programmable logic device is configured to execute the instruction extension. The programmable logic device then executes the instruction extension. The load/store module transfers data between the first register file and the second register file, and transfers data directly between the second register file and a system memory for use by the processor in processing the video application.

  • Patent number: 6908657
Abstract: A process of removing deposits from through-holes in a component, such as metallic bond coat and ceramic materials from cooling holes in an air-cooled gas turbine engine. The process is particularly effective in removing a TBC material deposited in a cooling hole of a component as a result of depositing a coating of the TBC material on a surface of the component, in which the deposit is removed from the cooling hole without damaging the cooling hole or the TBC coating surrounding the cooling hole on the coated surface of the component. A preferred feature is that the cooling hole, including the entrance to the hole at a surface of the component opposite the coated surface and the coating surrounding the exit of the hole at the coated surface, exhibits improved surface characteristics that increase the discharge coefficient of the cooling hole, as evidenced by an increase in the effective area of the cooling hole.

  • Publication number: 20050131740
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for controlling home health care services while improving the consistency and reliability of such services. The present invention also improves the productivity of the caregivers so that costs are reduced and care is improved. Such improvements reduce costs and provide more time with the patient. Indirect costs are also reduced because a more reliable home health care service allows a greater proportion of patients to be treated in their homes at a much lower cost than if they were still receiving inpatient services. During an emergency event, emergency responders have the ability to identify patients most at risk based on proximity to the event and based on the patient's medical condition.

  • Publication number: 20050065504
Abstract: Guided ablation instruments are disclosed for creating lesions in tissue, especially cardiac tissue for treatment of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation. In one aspect of the invention, a percutaneous catheter is disclosed with an endoscope positionable in the instrument's distal end region to obtain an image. The image allows the clinician to determine whether contact has been achieved (or blood has been cleared from an ablative energy transmission path) before ablation begins or while ablation is occurring. In one embodiment, percutaneous ablation catheters are disclosed having at least one central lumen and one or more balloon structures at the distal end region of the instrument. Also disposed in the distal end region are an illuminating light source and an endoscope capable of collecting sufficient light to relay an image to the user. The instruments can further include an ablation element.

  • Publication number: 20050038419
Abstract: Ablation methods and instruments are disclosed for creating lesions in tissue, especially cardiac tissue for treatment of arrhythmias and the like. Percutaneous ablation instruments in the form of coaxial catheter bodies are disclosed having at least one central lumen therein and having one or more balloon structures at the distal end region of the instrument. The instruments include an energy emitting element which is independently positionable within the lumen of the instrument and adapted to project radiant energy through a transmissive region of a projection balloon to a target tissue site. The instrument can optionally include at least one expandable anchor balloon disposed about, or incorporated into an inner catheter body designed to be slid over a guidewire. This anchor balloon can serve to position the device within a lumen, such as a pulmonary vein.

  • Patent number: 6857110
Abstract: A programmable logic core (PLC) can be integrated into custom ICs such as ASICs and SOCs using a unique design methodology. For example, the methodology can incorporate the PLC into the entire ASIC design process from chip level RTL to final tape-out and resolve issues ranging from RTL guidelines through to sub-micron signal integrity. The post-manufacture programming flow is considered up-front during the ASIC flow and tools ensure successful programming in the field environment for the lifetime of the product. An example PLC architecture for integration into a custom IC includes a Multi Scale Array (MSA) that consists of an array of configurable ALUs and is implemented as a hard macro, an Application Circuit Interface (ACI) that provides signal interface between the MSA and application circuitry and is included in the same hard macro, and a PLC Adapter that initiates and loads the PLC configuration data and interfaces that is implemented as a soft-macro.

  • Publication number: 20050027970
Abstract: A system and method for adding reconfigurable computational instructions to a reduced instruction set computer. A computer program contains instruction extensions not native to the instruction set of the processor core and is loaded into an instruction memory accessible by the processor core of the computer. The computer program is then detected for containing the instruction extension. The programmable logic device is then configured to execute the instruction extension. The programmable logic device then executes the instruction extension for use by the processor core in processing the computer program.

  • Patent number: 6729940
Abstract: A method of stripping coating from a portion of a coated surface of a component. The method includes fastening a mask sheet to the component over a region adjacent the portion of the coated surface. The mask sheet has a contour generally corresponding to a contour of the surface of the component. A high pressure fluid jet is sprayed from a spray head toward the portion of the coated surface after the mask sheet is fastened to the component to strip the coating from the portion of the surface. After the coating is stripped from the portion of the surface, the mask sheet is removed from the component.

  • Publication number: 20040057796
Abstract: Apparatus and method for applying temporary raised pavement markers (TRPM) to roadway surfaces comprises primary and auxiliary conveyors wherein an upstream end portion of the primary conveyor is able to extend, for example, over the rear bed portion of a roadwork truck so as to permit an operator, stationed upon the bed portion of the truck, to deposit pavement markers upon the primary conveyor. In accordance with a first embodiment of the invention, a slide mechanism is disposed adjacent to a downstream end portion of the primary conveyor and adjacent to an upstream end portion of the auxiliary conveyor for transferring pavement markers from the primary conveyor to the auxiliary conveyor when the absence of a pavement marker upon the auxiliary conveyor is detected. When pavement markers are present upon both conveyors, the pavement markers are conducted to applicator mechanisms for application to the roadway surface.

  • Publication number: 20040057824
Abstract: Apparatus and method for retrieving traffic cones from roadway surfaces comprises a framework which is adapted to be attached to a roadwork vehicle so as to be movable therewith along a roadway surface. A knock-down bar upon the framework knocks down a normally upstanding traffic cone, and a substantially horizontally oriented, substantially conically configured spearing mechanism mounted upon the framework is inserted into the hollow interior of the traffic cone. The spearing mechanism and traffic cone are pivoted to a vertical orientation, and subsequently elevated so as to place the traffic cones onto a platform in a nested stacked array.
