The one or more rules define a geographic area related to the information distribution entity and define information to be distributed to the wireless subscriber when a wireless device of the wireless subscriber is in the geographic area. The method also includes receiving a registration message from the wireless subscriber, determining that the wireless device of the subscriber is in the geographic area, and delivering the information to the wireless device of the wireless subscriber.

If the digital information object and the overlay include at least one common concept, the digital information object is automatically and dynamically linked to each concept node expressing common concepts. A user may create an information node in the overlay representing the digital information object.

    Abstract: A communications system provides the functionality to provide a wireless telephone user directional information to a desired destination. Incorporated into the wireless telephone is a position determining device such as a global positioning system (GPS) device. When a phone user establishes a connection with a particular switch in the wireless network, this positional information from the GPS device is provided and the location of the wireless phone may be determined. The wireless telephone user also provides information regarding the desired destination. Associated with the destination code for the desired destination is a physical street address. Using the known location of the wireless telephone and the street address for the desired destination, a mapping procedure may be performed to determine a route between the two points. This route may be then converted to audio and/or alphanumeric directions.

    Abstract: A community of practice server provides system users who establish connections over a data network with the functionality to either create a community of practice web page, view and access existing web pages, or to activate web sites which have been archived. If the system user chooses to create a new website, an interactive display graphic may be provided through which the system user may enter selected information. Once this information has been completed, a template may be accessed from memory and this information used to populate the template. Once this is complete, a predetermined number of links may be provided on the web page to predetermined destinations. The web sites which are created are accessible and updateable by any number of system users who are granted access to it.

    Abstract: A system provides for the automatic generation of information portfolios for a selected entity. A corporate data warehouse may include information about particular customers in various data tables. This information may be advantageous to sales representatives for presenting to customers and identifying those accounts for a customer which may benefit from additional services or equipment. The system described herein performs a periodic automatic search of the corporate data warehouse and extracts selected information for a particular customer and combines this information into a single portfolio which is organized in a predetermined format. This portfolio may be stored on a local network server with which a system user may establish a connection in order to download said portfolio. This portfolio may be organized in such a fashion that thousands of different entities for a particular organization may be identified and the information is easily accessed and viewed.

Each document having metadata defined by at least one predetermined tag and corresponding value which is assigned thereto. Selection criteria is received and corresponds to a user scenario. The received selection criteria is compared to the metadata of each document to determine if there is a document match. In the case that a document match is found, a retrieval report is generated for presentation on the output device which includes each document match.

    Abstract: An information shopping cart that can be used to store selected information from a website and later use the information at a portable device, such as a personal digital assistant (PDA). The website may be a directory website accessed at a personal computer. The user may select various directory listings, as well as ancillary information (driving directions, maps, advertisements, menus, coupons, etc.) for the information shopping cart. The entire shopping cart is then downloaded to the PDA. The user then takes the PDA where the user needs the information most, whether on the road, walking, or any location away from the personal computer.

    Abstract: A system and method provided for the acquisition and retention of knowledge assets. The system includes a user interface, a processor, and memory storage devices. In order to use the system, system users perform different tasks. Initiators and knowledge stewards provide for the generation and monitoring of specifications which describe in detail performance issues which have been encountered. These issues are stored in a database and common issues are linked together. Implementors retrieve the specifications and implementation plans to resolve performance issues. These implementation plans are also stored in the database and are accessible by the initiator and the knowledge steward who may provide an assessment of the success of the implementation plan. The structure of the database is such that links may be established between specification and implementation plans with common subject matter.
