In one embodiment, the novel multi-compartment gabion assembly comprises a plurality of adjacently positioned and integrally connected gabion cells that includes at least one regular gabion cell and at least one corner gabion cell. In other embodiments, the novel multi-compartment gabion assembly comprises a wire mesh gabion that has a filter bag conformally positioned within the gabion, wherein the filter bag is made from at least two different water permeable sheet materials.
