  • Patent number: 11677436
Abstract: A platform is provided which removes the need for the pilot to select between high angle and low angle antenna elements. By the automatic selection, the platform may improve BLOS connectivity during various phases of flight, such as during banking operations. The platform includes a SATCOM antenna including first and second elements. The platform also includes one or more SDRs which provide receive and transmit functions for the BLOS waveform. The platform may also include either a UHF diversity combiner or an LNA diplexer assembly. Thus, two methods are described for reducing out-of-service events for CDMA and legacy Narrowband UHF SATCOM.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 2021
Date of Patent: June 13, 2023
    Assignee: Rockwell Collins, Inc.
Inventors: Jeffrey Grundmeyer, John V. Thommana

  • Patent number: 11632143
Abstract: A system may include a software-defined radio (SDR) configured to communicate over multiple channels by using a beyond line of sight (BLOS) waveform. The SDR may be configured to transmit encrypted communications over some or all of the multiple channels to a satellite and on to at least one radio access node (RAN). The SDR may be configured to receive encrypted communications over some or all of the multiple channels from the at least one RAN via the satellite. At least one of the multiple channels may use a spreading factor greater than 256. The SDR may be configured to simultaneously transmit and receive encrypted communications over the multiple channels.

  • Publication number: 20220247483
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to a jam resistant signal. The signal is transmitted from a terminal to a satellite. The signal may include two waveform components. The first waveform component includes a Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) wideband Direct Spread Spectrum (DSSS) waveform. The FDD wideband DSSS waveform may include one or more spectrally notched portions. At least one of the spectrally notched portions may be for the second waveform component. The second waveform component includes an FDD narrowband waveform.

  • Patent number: 11050443
Abstract: A system may include a node. The node may include a first software-defined radio (SDR) configured to support transmit and receive communications using a beyond line of sight (BLOS) waveform. The node may include a second SDR to support transmit and receive communications using a line of sight waveform while simultaneously being configured to support receive communications using a narrowband (NB) ultra high frequency (UHF) satellite communication (SATCOM) waveform. The node may include a SATCOM antenna configured to transmit and receive the communications using the BLOS waveform and to receive the communications using the NB UHF SATCOM waveform. The node may include a low noise amplifier (LNA) and triplexer assembly. The first and second SDRs may share the SATCOM antenna and the LNA and triplexer assembly.
