  • Patent number: 7180212
Abstract: An electric machine including multiple windings, a switch circuit connected to each of the windings, a positive bus bar, and a negative bus bar. The switch circuits are in communication with the windings to selectively energize each of the windings. The positive bus bar is a conductive plate connected to the switch circuits and the negative bus bar is a conductive plate positioned substantially parallel to the positive bus bar and connected electrically to the switch circuits.

  • Patent number: 6736228
Abstract: A powertrain for a hybrid vehicle includes an engine, a transmission and an electric machine disposed therebetween. The electric machine includes a stator housing, a stator mounted within the stator housing and a rotor mounted radially within and coaxial with the stator. The electric machine further includes a first clutch disposed between the engine and the rotor, and a second clutch disposed between the rotor and the transmission. The first and second clutches include non-ferrous clutch plates which are adapted to be immersed in hydraulic fluid. The electric machine has a first mode wherein the electric machine provides torque to the engine, a second mode wherein the electric machine is driven by the engine and a third mode wherein the electric machine provides torque to the transmission. The first and second clutches are positioned radially within the stator housing and axially within the length of the stator housing.

  • Publication number: 20030116368
Abstract: A vehicle drive system for a hybrid electric vehicle includes an engine, which includes a crankshaft assembly, and a motor, which includes a main rotor shaft. A first clutch selectively engages the crankshaft assembly and the main rotor shaft. The vehicle drive system also includes a transmission, which includes an input shaft, and second clutch which selectively engages the main rotor shaft and the transmission input shaft. An accessory drive mechanism is driven by the main rotor shaft and drives a vehicle accessory. The accessory may be an air conditioning compressor and include a clutch coupled between the accessory drive mechanism and the compressor.

  • Patent number: 5596970
Abstract: A single fuel pump for a fuel delivery system supplies fuel from the fuel tank to a reservoir and also supplies fuel from the reservoir to the engine. The fuel pump has a single impeller having outer vanes and inner vanes radially inward from the outer vanes. The vanes are aligned with outer and inner channels in the pump housing, respectively, so that fuel may be pumped from the fuel tank into the reservoir. Fuel from the reservoir is then pumped to the engine.
