  • Patent number: 10132580
Abstract: A forward assist assembly movable between a standby position and an engaged position in a forward assist bore of a firearm. The assembly includes a button and an single-piece pawl. The single-piece pawl includes an integrally-formed pivot boss supporting the pawl in the button for pivotal movement with respect to the button. The pivot boss also transfers a linear actuation force from the button to the pawl to move the assembly into the engaged position. The single-piece pawl also includes an integrally-formed finger having an engagement surface for engaging a ratchet tooth on the bolt carrier in the engaged position. The single-piece pawl also includes an integrally-formed retaining surface to retain the forward assist assembly in the standby position in the forward assist bore. The single-piece pawl also includes an integrally-formed stop surface to abut a portion of the button in the standby position.

  • Publication number: 20020182400
Abstract: A semi-opaque cavitated multilayer plastic film suitable for packaging and labeling applications, and having at least one image applied to an outer skin surface thereof. The film includes a whitening agent in at least one layer, and preferably includes an optical brightener to enhance the lightness of the image. The controlled opacity of the film allows optimal viewing of the image in both reflected and/or transmitted light.

  • Publication number: 20020172779
Abstract: A method is provided for surface treating a polymeric film. The film may be biaxially oriented and includes void spaces or cavities in a thermoplastic polymer matrix. The surface treatment involves contacting at least one surface of the film with plasma at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature below the melting point of the thermoplastic polymer of the matrix material. This method makes the treated surfaces more hydrophilic.

  • Publication number: 20020146542
Abstract: A film with an ink jet printed surface is provided. The film is biaxially stretched and includes a surface layer of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and particles of an incompatible material. This surface layer has a meshed network of HDPE fibers and striations of layers coplanar with the plane of the film. This surface layer is porous in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the film and has a void content of at least about 20%. The surface layer is provided with a coating of a porous ink receiving layer.

  • Patent number: 5891555
Abstract: Readily castable high density polyethylene (HDPE) films, preferably containing broad molecular weight distribution HDPE resin having treated upper skin layers and untreated lower skin layers, preferably coextruded, on each side. The treated upper skin layer is derived from a polymer, e.g., ethylene-propylene-butene-1 terpolymer, and the lower skin layer is derived from a polymer such as ethylene-propylene-butene-1 terpolymer and LDPE compounded with silicone oil. Such skin layers provide a film which is readily castable while maintaining the desirable properties of HDPE including dead fold, twist retention, TD tear and moisture barrier. The films are cast, and oriented in the solid state up to about two times in the machine direction and six times or more in the transverse direction to give films having good dead-fold characteristics making them highly suited for packaging, particularly for dry foods.

  • Patent number: 5302442
Abstract: A base thermoplastic film, has a coextruded or coated heat seal layer formed from a polymer blend which provides good peel-apart heat seals. When the film is sealed to itself, the seal opens by separation at the original seal surface without film tear, or by delamination of the sealant material from the primary base film substrate without the formation of strands extending between the two base film. The heat seal layer which may be on one or both sides of the base layer comprises a ternary blend of a random ethylene-propylene copolymer, a butene polymer and a low density polyethylene. The films are cast, and oriented in the solid state up to about two times in the machine direction and six times or more in the transverse direction to give films having good dead-fold and water vapor transmission rate characteristics making them highly suited for packaging, particularly for dry foods.
