Abstract: Methods and system deliver media to users of media presentation systems. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a media server communicates with a media presentation system, such as a media player for streaming video and audio, to present subscription and non-subscription media to the user of the media presentation system. Subscription media may include multi-tiered media packages and individual media offerings as selected by the user. The media may be presented in various formats, including video, a graphical display, an audio presentation, a graphical and audio presentation, URL links, and interactive windows. Information about the user, the user's subscription status, the user's media presentation system and information about the media providers and the media offered by the media providers are maintained by the media server.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for buffering streamed presentation data within a container file includes receiving one or more data streams from each of one or more presentation sources within the presentation, creating within the container file a virtual file for each of the one or more presentation sources, temporarily storing first data associated with a first data stream of a first presentation source in association with a first virtual file corresponding to the presentation source, determining a container file size, and temporarily storing additional data from the first data stream in place of at least a portion of the first data if the container file size is within a predetermined range of an identified maximum buffer size.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and client device for selecting an identifier on a display of the client device, the identifier corresponding to a website having one or more web pages stored on a server. In response to selecting an identifier, an indication is transmitted to a server requesting that at least one of the web pages be transmitted to the client device. The web page is received and rendered on the display of the client device. A datastore is queried to determine if at least one web feed is available on the website. The datastore includes feed information that defines web feeds available on the website. In response to the availability of at least one web feed on the website, an indicator is rendered with the client device indicative of the availability of the at least one web feed on the website.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and electronic device for transferring updated digital content to a client device includes determining that the updated content is available from a web feed. The updated content is obtained from the web feed and stored within a datastore. An indication is provided to the client device, via a network, concerning the availability of the updated content within the datastore. The updated content is transmitted, via the network, from the datastore to the client device.

Abstract: A system and method of the present invention allow the playback of recorded data as the data is being recorded. Data is read from a source location, converted into an encoded format and stored in a database. At the same time, the stored data is read from the database, and played as the data is being recorded.

Abstract: A system and method of the present invention allow users to access, manage, and edit information about content data, often referred to as metadata. Metadata is collected from various sources, added, and maintained in a metadata database. In addition, metadata is dynamically read from the metadata database and dynamically displayed in a graphical user interface in an organized manner, such as a hierarchical tree. In the graphical user interface, a user may add, delete, and/or modify the metadata. As the user changes the metadata, the metadata database is updated and the user's changes are propagated throughout the graphical user interface such that the hierarchical tree is displays the changed metadata.
