  • Patent number: 9525732
Abstract: Social networking is used to enhance content delivery to mobile devices. Sometimes a mobile device lacks network connectivity, such as when the mobile device is off or offline. Content cannot be sent to the mobile device when lacking network connectivity. A social network, however, may be retrieved for interim storage of the content. When the mobile device lacks network connectivity, the content may be routed to a member device of the social network. The member device stores the content until the mobile device resumes network connectivity. The member device may then send or forward the content to the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20160358223
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a device having a memory and a processor coupled to the memory. The processor can be operable to transmit a radio frequency signal directed to a radio frequency identifier tag carried by a first item, receive usage information from the radio frequency identifier tag, determine a measure of wear and tear of the first item from the usage information, compare the measure of wear and tear to a threshold, detect from the comparison a state of usage of the first item, and submit a notice representative of the state of usage of the first item. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9509770
Abstract: A system and method for providing time-sensitive information to a handset using a scrolling ticker. The method includes receiving the time-sensitive information at a server, determining the time period before the next update for a second set of information, and if less than a pre-determined value, then streaming the time sensitive information at the end of the time period to the handset. If the time period is greater than the pre-determined value, then streaming the time-sensitive information immediately. In an alternative embodiment, a method is provided which includes determining a base schedule for periodically streaming the information to a handset via a scrolling ticker, receiving time-sensitive information relating to an event, determining a second schedule for periodically streaming time-sensitive information related to the event, and streaming the time-sensitive information in accordance with the second schedule during a time period associated with the event.

  • Publication number: 20160342221
Abstract: A method or apparatus accessing, by a recipient device, media content supplied by a source device. The media content is modified to generate first updated media content, wherein the media content is modified according to a comparison of first information descriptive of a first environment of the source device to second information descriptive of a second environment of the recipient device. Images are obtained of a gesture performed within the second environment. A command is identified from the gesture and the first updated media content is modified to generate second updated media content according to the command. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20160309117
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, receiving first and second media content portraying images of first and second users, wherein the first and second users participate in a conference call. Joint media content is generated of the conference call including the images of the first and second users, that when presented at a display of a third user includes the images of the first and second users. Speech of the first user directed to the second user is detected and, in response, the image of the first user of the joint media content is adjusted to obtain a rotated image of the first user. The joint media content includes the rotated image of the first user and the image of the second user, that when presented at the display of the third user portrays the first user turned toward the second user.

  • Patent number: 9397999
Abstract: Sensitive content is securely shared. A request is received from a first communication device to share sensitive content. The first communication device is associated with an account for a communication service provided by a network provider. A message including a link to the sensitive content is sent to a second communication device associated with a phone number. That message is addressed to the second communication device. An authentication message is received, indicating that the second communication device is associated with the phone number. Responsive to receipt of the authentication message, the sensitive content is made accessible via the second communication device without requiring that the second communication device be associated with an account for the communication service provided by the network provider.
